Job Description - Director, Laboratory Automation

We are seeking a Director of Laboratory Automation to join Q2 Solutions, IQVIA’s laboratory business at Durham, NC .

As the Director of Laboratory Automation, you will be responsible for identifying, acquiring, implementing, maintaining, and improving liquid handling and other laboratory automation solutions within a vaccine laboratory facility that performs routine testing and research and development activities. You will work directly with Laboratory Operations and Vaccines Leadership to deploy systems that enhance productivity, quality, and safety in the lab.
What You’ll be Doing:
Develop and execute a comprehensive automation strategy aligned with the lab’s scientific goals and regulatory requirements.
Evaluate existing processes and identify opportunities for automation solutions, including sample handling, data acquisition, and assay execution.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to select and implement appropriate laboratory automation solutions.
Direct the installation, calibration, and validation of laboratory automation systems in compliance with regulations and Vaccines Quality Management requirements.
Ensure maintenance and proper functioning of automated systems, including liquid handling platforms and other robotic devices, and maintain documentation and other records to ensure traceability.
Perform trend analysis of key system metrics for reporting to senior Vaccines Leadership, troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate repairs and maintenance as needed.
Establish standardized procedural documentation for automated workflows.
Document procedures, protocols, and maintenance schedules.
Train lab personnel on the use of automated systems.
Implement quality control measures to validate the accuracy and precision of automated processes and to ensure system suitability.
Work closely with information technology, bioinformatics and data science teams to facilitate automated data exchange with IT systems including laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
Communicate project status, timelines, and financials to key stakeholders periodically and on an as-needed basis.
Lead a team of automation specialists and technicians.
What We Are Looking For:
A master’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant field (e.g., biology, computer science, engineering, or related disciplines).
Minimum of 8-12 years of prior relevant experience in laboratory automation, preferably in a vaccine research setting.
Mastery of laboratory robotics, including liquid handling platforms and their associated scripting environments.
Working knowledge of regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, CLIA) related to testing laboratories, including the qualification and implementation of laboratory automation systems.
The Knowledge, Skills and Abilities needed for this role:
Excellent leadership and communication skills.
Proficiency in project management and process optimization.
Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

The potential base pay range for this role, when annualized, is $134,400.00 - $249,600.00. The actual base pay offered may vary based on a number of factors including job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, education, and experience; location; and/or schedule (full or part-time). Dependent on the position offered, incentive plans, bonuses, and/or other forms of compensation may be offered, in addition to a range of health and welfare and/or other benefits.
