The Role

The Director, Land reports to the company’s SVP, Development Services and leads land acquisition, leasing, and rights-of-way efforts to advance renewable energy generation and storage projects. This role is responsible for setting land strategy, negotiating complex agreements with landowners and agencies, and ensuring compliance with title, legal, and regulatory requirements. The Director oversees internal land processes and the land team, providing guidance and mentorship to staff while driving efficiency and consistency across all land functions. This role works closely with development, legal, finance, and permitting teams to support the company’s growth and project pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the acquisition of leases, easements, rights-of-way, and land purchases to support renewable energy development.


• Negotiate directly with landowners, public entities, and other stakeholders on complex and high-value land agreements.


• Oversee title and mineral searches, resolve title curative issues, and secure title policies to ensure project viability.


• Direct lease administration processes, including GIS mapping, records management, lease schedules, and timely lease payments/renewals.


• Establish, refine, and manage internal land procedures for mapping, title review, and mineral rights searches.


• Build and maintain strong relationships with landowners, lessors, and community stakeholders.


• Provide strategic land support to development, permitting, legal, and finance teams, including due diligence for financing and project advancement.


• Represent the company with government agencies, regulators, law firms, and industry partners on land-related matters.


• Mentor, develop, and lead land staff to build department expertise and ensure high-quality execution.


• Stay current on federal, state, and local land use regulations and proactively integrate compliance and best practices into company strategy.

Education and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in land management or a related field such as geology, geography, engineering, economics, or commerce; advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., AAPL) preferred.


• At least 10 years of relevant experience in land acquisition, title, or land management, including 5+ years in a leadership role.


• Proven success in negotiating and closing complex land deals.


• Strong knowledge of real estate, land documents, and regulatory requirements for energy development.


• Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with experience building and leading teams.


• Experience in renewable energy, geothermal, transmission line siting, or large-scale infrastructure development strongly preferred.


• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ArcGIS Pro, and related tools.
