Job Description - Director, Medical Affairs

Position Title: Director, Medical Affairs


Department: Medical Affairs 


Reports To (title): Head of Medical Affairs 


Location: King of Prussia, PA (hybrid work schedule) 


Date: Spring 2025 


 


Summary of Position:


The Director, Medical Affairs is a critical leadership role in the Medical Affairs function that provides strategic and tactical medical and scientific expertise for Medical Affairs with multi-faceted responsibilities and a high-level of accountability. This role will be responsible for oversight of all Medical Affairs publications, scientific communications and the integration of medical affairs into enterprise-related activities.  Publication duties include developing, planning and executing all publication activities and actively leading an integrated, external publication team to maintain a publication plan that is aligned with cross functional team strategies. Scientific Communication duties include providing scientific content for communications and training materials, educational programs, and sponsorships to ensure scientific accuracy and alignment with Paratek Pharmaceutical's (Paratek) objectives. Medical Affairs integration  duties include effectively working with the Medical Affairs matrix team and with cross functional partners including Commercial, Marketing, Regulatory, Medical and Clinical Development, providing expert scientific and medical guidance on therapeutic areas and disease states to ensure alignment with corporate goals and regulatory compliance. The position requires strong relationships with colleagues who are office or field based. 


Position Responsibilities:



  • Provide strategic direction for Medical Affairs Publications and Scientific Communications activities that are aligned with company

  • Strategic scientific partnership to both internal stakeholders and

  • Develop, plan, and execute Publication Plan and timelines as approved by the Publication Chair Publication Committee.

  • Provide scientific expertise to support development, maintenance, and execution of training initiatives to meet current and future business needs.

  • Provide scientific expertise regarding the characteristics of Paratek products to support positioning in the appropriate therapeutic area.

  • Ability to critically evaluate and interpret scientific literature including potential impact on clinical practice and medical strategy for Paratek products. Maintain high standards and levels of scientific, clinical, and technical expertise in appropriate therapeutic areas and acute care environments through review of scientific/medical journals and other relevant publications, attending scientific, clinical, and commercial and other key meetings.

  • Provide scientific expertise in the development of slide decks and other key scientific communications utilized by externally facing functions for scientific communications.

  • Provide scientific expertise in the development of medical initiatives (i.e., virtual presentations, congress symposia, advisory boards, medical education/grant program).

  • Manage Paratek Medical Communications Vendor(s) to ensure compliance with Paratek’s Policies and Procedures and Workflows to execute the Medical and Publication Plan within the allocated Medical Affairs Budget.

  • Manage budgets and resources effectively to support medical affairs initiatives.

  • Establish a productive work environment, by creating trust and respect within the matrix group, and establish her/himself as a trusted partner.


Candidate Requirements: 



  • Emulates Paratek's core values - Resourceful, Passionate, Purposeful and

  • Advanced Life Sciences degree required, Masters or Doctorate strongly preferred (MD, PharmD, PhD).

  • 7+ years in pharmaceutical industry with progressive Medical Affairs work experience

  • Broad therapeutic expertise preferred.

  • Experience interacting effectively with headquarter personnel and field based medical

  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical industry laws, regulations, and guidelines regarding medical information and scientific communications.

  • High degree of professionalism, integrity and collaboration required.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaborative team

  • Strong leadership, team building, negotiation, and ability to execute

  • Excellent networking and relationship building skills for successful cooperation with internal and external customers.

  • Able to work effectively with all levels of the organization and across multiple

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders and influence others.


Additional Information: 



  • Technology needs: Ability to work with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and learn new systems as applicable.

  • Travel requirements (%): 30%, as needed
