Job Description - Director of Ambulatory Pharmacy & Medication Management

JOB PURPOSE:
The Director of Ambulatory Pharmacy and Medication Management is responsible for overseeing the management of medications within the Physician Enterprise (all Piedmont-owned provider offices and clinics). This includes, but is not limited to, working with provider and operational leaders on purchasing processes, contracts, and medication selection. This director will also work with provider, operational, clinical, and quality/safety leaders to implement and maintain medication safety programs. The director will report directly to the VP of Pharmacy and Laboratory Services for Piedmont Healthcare. The director will also work very closely with the Physician Enterprise executive and physician leadership teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop and implement medication safety policies and procedures to reduce the risk of adverse drug events.
2. When appropriate, develop and manage medication formularies for the Physician Enterprise.
3. Oversees the development and maintenance of appropriate drug purchasing and inventory control systems.
4. Monitor and report adverse drug events, conduct investigations, and recommend corrective actions.
5. Provide guidance and training to providers, nurses, and medical assistance related to medication safety and error prevention strategies.
6. Participate in appropriate committees and workgroups to represent medication safety in the Physician Enterprise.
7. Work with Physician Enterprise/Primary Care leaders to implement 1-6.
8. Keep up-to-date with emerging trends and best practices in ambulatory medication management and safety.
9. Provides consultative, strategic and decision-making support to cross-entity and matrixed teams involved with the execution of new medication management and safety initiatives.
10. Identifies, evaluates, and resolves problems and is capable of leading teams to address complex issues.
11. Work with other departments to advance the objectives of the division and the medication safety program. This includes, but is not limited to Quality, Safety, Supply Chain, I.S./Informatics, Population Health, and Acute Care and Retail/Specialty Pharmacy.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

* Monitoring and/or reporting on projects.
* Skilled use of Microsoft Office applications.
* Familiarity with Epic and other clinical applications.
* Must be able to maintain the confidentiality of data.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Graduate of an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy with a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Pharmacy required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Seven (7) years of progressively responsible and relevant work experience in medications management and safety, preferably in an ambulatory or clinic-based role.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Licensed as a registered pharmacist in the state of Georgia.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree or Residency preferred.
Strong understanding of healthcare operations and medication-related clinical workflows is preferred.
Previous experience leading a cross-functional, enterprise-wide complex project in a healthcare setting is strongly preferred. Exceptional organization skills required. Superior written and verbal communication skills including the ability to present ideas in a clear and completing manner.
