About the Role:
The Director of Architecture leads the design vision, architectural standards, and innovation strategy for a modular and production housing portfolio. This in-office leadership position oversees the full architectural processfrom concept through constructionensuring compliance with state and local building codes, design excellence, and production efficiency. The ideal candidate is a licensed California architect with deep expertise in residential or modular design, advanced proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams while interfacing directly with clients, city officials, and state agencies.

Responsibilities:

• Direct the architectural vision, design strategy, and development of modular housing product lines.

• Lead design reviews, oversee floor plans, specifications, and architectural detailing for all projects.

• Ensure compliance with California state and municipal building codes, zoning ordinances, and permitting requirements.

• Represent the architectural department in meetings with clients, city planners, and state agencies to secure approvals and permits.

• Oversee the use of Revit and AutoCAD for accurate, coordinated, and efficient project documentation.

• Drive innovation in modular housing design, integrating sustainable materials, modern construction technologies, and efficient layouts.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in engineering, construction, and manufacturing to ensure design intent is upheld through production.

• Manage and mentor architectural staff, providing technical guidance and career development.

• Develop and maintain internal standards, templates, and documentation systems for consistent design quality.

• Present design concepts and strategies to executive leadership and key stakeholders.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Architecture required.

• Current California Architectural License is mandatory.

• Minimum of 812 years of architectural experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.

• Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD for architectural documentation and coordination.

• Proven background in residential, modular, or prefab housing design.

• Strong understanding of California building codes, permitting processes, and local jurisdictional requirements.

• Demonstrated success in client-facing and city/state regulatory interactions.

• Excellent communication, presentation, and team leadership skills.

• Ability to manage multiple complex projects while meeting deadlines and maintaining design integrity.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with sustainable design strategies and energy-efficient building systems.

• Familiarity with digital design workflows, BIM integration, and modular manufacturing processes.

• Knowledge of quality assurance and code compliance procedures for modular and prefabricated housing.

• Strong collaboration skills for working with sales, construction, and operations teams.

• Experience representing architectural teams in public hearings, planning meetings, or client presentations.
