Grade: MM9 Salary Range $99,929.73 - $124,798.53 (FY25)
POSITION SUMMARY (FULL DESCRIPTION TO FOLLOW)
The Director of Athletic Infrastructure, and Sports Tourism will be charged with developing a citywide strategy cultivating and managing public-private partnerships (PPPs) for athletic space, researching, procuring, and overseeing building management software for the City, athletic space management, and youth sports league development. The Director will have substantial responsibility involving the exercise of independent action and judgement and initiative in implementing Chelsea’s Athletic Infrastructure and cultivating Sports Tourism.
This position is responsible for attracting and developing the sports tourism industry in the City of Chelsea. This position oversees all of the staff that plan, organize, direct, and promote the programs, activities and events as part of the Recreation Department.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred, in recreation, exercise science, physical education, or related field. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
Five to seven years of experience in personnel management and supervision experience with demonstrative experience in leading sports and recreation activities and athletic organization.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with ability to motivate and inspire staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Lead the identification, negotiation, and management of strategic partnerships with public and private entities to enhance athletic infrastructure.
Develop mutually beneficial agreements that leverage resources to improve access to athletic facilities and programs.
Develop citywide strategy for the efficient and effective management of athletic spaces, including scheduling, maintenance, and usage optimization. Collaborate with internal teams, including Chelsea Public Schools, CPS Athletics, and external partners to ensure facilities are well maintained and accessible to the community.
