Your job as Director of Development at Fastspot will be to work with a team of strategists, designers, and developers to tackle difficult challenges with an eye toward delivering high quality, creative solutions. We are a team full of interdisciplinary creators. No one at Fastspot has just one responsibility. You will be responsible for: Working with designers and strategists to convert designs and functional requirements into beautiful, highly performant sites; producing well-organized code and elegant CMS architecture solutions; reviewing your team members' code for standards and quality assurance; and making decisions based on best practices and user experience, both from a front-end and back-end focus.

The ideal candidate will have talent and creativity, a discerning eye, a strategic mind, a good attitude, and a passion for what we do. We are looking for someone who can speak intelligently about their ideas and decisions and who excels at making those ideas into real, usable, and innovative solutions.

This position is full-time and open to remote candidates although the Baltimore City office is open to everyone. Unfortunately, we are unable to consider applications from international applicants.

Expected Responsibilities
Manage Development team resources.
Monitor project health and production; ensure projects are coming along properly and that deadlines will be met; raise red flags and bring in resources as early as possible in a project if there are problems.
Technology evangelism: Champion the right tech solutions based on the needs of each client.
Lead client-facing communication as the voice of authority on technological solutions; garner buy-in and foster alignment.
Define technical approaches to projects that meet both client-stated need and budget constraints.
Stay abreast of industry trends and technology developments to deliver continuous improvements in our capabilities and contribute fresh ideas to our business strategy.
Support business development with the technical aspects of projects, proposals, and contracts, including assistance with the preparation and presentation of pitches.
Manage the performance of the Development team and provide high-level leadership to the organization.
Develop, continuously evolve, and improve processes.
Provide leadership and guidance that fosters creativity, craftsmanship and outstanding client service.
Actively pursue your continued professional development by seeking out conferences, reading materials, and the like that will continue to advance your creative and professional skill set.
Bring ideas and enthusiasm to team discussions revolving around your area of expertise; always strive for a higher level of quality in deliverables, customer service, performance, and professionalism.
Lead productive internal work reviews, peer reviews, and team meetings.
Celebrate successes; participate in Fastspot Fun Events.

Requirements
Must have 5+ years of relevant experience (e.g. past or current positions at interactive agencies, work on large websites with complex systems)
Specific experience architecting and building complicated, large-scale WordPress, Craft, Drupal sites/applications
Deep understanding of and extensive experience with developing best practice, unit test-driven, object-oriented PHP
Skilled at relational database systems (preferably MySQL) and writing SQL, HTML, and Javascript

(CSS/SASS are a plus!)

Demonstrated experience building large, complex sites with third-party API integrations
Portfolio demonstrating your ability to produce well-organized, standards-compliant code

This is a full-time position. Fastspot is a hybrid workplace, we maintain an office in Baltimore but do not require employees to live or work from this location, it is purely optional, however many Baltimore-based employees choose to go in on certain days to be together. Travel is required, to one- or two-day client visits as well as attending quarterly team meetings, annual all-company retreats, and fun events.
