Director of Dietary Services

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Director of Dietary Services to join our Nutritional Services team serving our Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living facilities throughout San Luis Obispo County.

This is an ON-SITE position and is not remote. The position may support various facilities throughout San Luis Obispo County, and the successful candidate must be willing and able to commute to assigned facilities as operational needs arise.

About the Position

The Director of Dietary Services is responsible for overseeing the overall operation of the dietary department and ensuring that residents receive high-quality food service and appropriate nutritional care.

Working as part of an interdisciplinary team, you will collaborate with nursing, administration, activities, and other departments to promote resident well-being, satisfaction, and quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the dietary department.
• Ensure high-quality food service and nutritional care is provided to residents.
• Oversee meal planning, preparation, service, sanitation, and food safety practices.
• Ensure dietary services comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including requirements applicable to Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living facilities.
• Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures.
• Monitor food quality, portion control, presentation, and resident satisfaction.
• Coordinate with nursing and other members of the interdisciplinary team regarding residents' nutritional needs, preferences, and dietary restrictions.
• Oversee dietary staff scheduling, training, performance, and daily operations.
• Maintain appropriate records and documentation.
• Monitor inventory, ordering, food costs, and supplies.
• Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
• Promote a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment.
• Respond to resident concerns and work collaboratively to resolve dietary-related issues.
• Ensure the department operates efficiently while maintaining high standards of resident care and service.

Qualifications:

Experience

• One Year as a dietary manager (preferred) 
• Six (6) months of supervisory experience in dietary management in an acute or long term care environment required.
• Knowledgeable of dietary department procedures as well as related laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to long term care
• Valid and current license/certification as required by state law.
• Completion of state approved “Serve Safe” program.
• Over one year dietary experience in a skilled nursing facility preferred

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Bachelor Degree preferred
• Completion of CDM program or Must be willing to complete CDM program within 6 months of hire.
