Job Description - Director of Distribution & 3PL Operations
Overview:
The Director of Distribution & 3PL Operations will work with 2 direct reports to lead operational and financial performance across a multi-site network of 3PL-operated distribution centers in California, Texas, and Pennsylvania. This role provides strategic direction to 3PL partners and is accountable for warehouse operations, inventory accuracy, service performance, cost control, and cross-functional alignment. The Director ensures orders are fulfilled accurately, shipped on time, and delivered in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
Location: This position can be located in Alpharetta-GA, Moreno Valley-CA, Texas, or Allentown-PA.
Core Duties/Responsibilities:
Operations Leadership: Lead end-to-end 3PL warehouse operations across multiple sites, including receiving, put-away, inventory management, order fulfillment, shipping, and returns.
Performance & Continuous Improvement: Establish and monitor KPIs, drive process improvements, and optimize labor, systems, and workflows to improve service, accuracy, and cost performance.
Financial Management: Build and manage budgets, oversee operating expenses, and partner with 3PLs to achieve productivity and cost-reduction targets.
Partner & Contract Management: Manage 3PL relationships, lead RFPs, and support negotiation of warehouse operations and lease agreements while identifying and mitigating contractual risks.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to OSHA, DOT, customer compliance requirements, and site safety and sanitation standards across all facilities.
Team & Cross-Functional Leadership: Develop direct reports and align closely with transportation, order management, reverse logistics, finance, IT, manufacturing, and customer teams to deliver service excellence.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
Experience: 10+ years of progressive warehouse and distribution leadership experience in high-volume, fast-paced environments, including management of multi-site 3PL operations.
Industry Background: Experience in consumer electronics, home appliances, air conditioning, or similarly complex distribution environments is strongly preferred.
Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of WMS and ERP platforms such as SAP, along with advanced Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis skills.
Leadership Skills: Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence internal teams and external partners.
