Job Description - Director of Education

Description

The Director of Education leads the development and implementation of high-quality educational programs, supporting teachers through coaching, mentorship, and modeling best practices. Reporting to the School Director and collaborating closely with the Department of Academic Development, this role ensures compliance with licensing and accreditation standards, maintains engaging and safe learning environments, and upholds the center's culture and commitment to academic excellence. The Director of Education fosters a positive and inclusive environment for children, families, and team members while driving continuous improvement in classroom practices and educational outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a minimum of 30 hours of annual training
  • Participate in the Together We Grow coaching program
  • Collaborate with the School Director to ensure the center and team members conform to federal, state, and local rules, regulations, licensing requirements, and regional and national accreditation standards and compliance.
  • Spend 85% of the day in the classrooms coaching, mentoring, and modeling appropriate practices for teachers. Assist with challenging behaviors and offer positive guidance to team members on managing classroom environments.
  • Train, motivate, and lead team members daily and assist with onboarding new team members
  • Supervise the floor and help during drop-off and pick-up hours to maintain ratios and ensure the well-being of team members and children.
  • Ensure proper room arrangement to maximize child-led activities, learning environment, and accreditation standards.
  • Assist in completing monthly classroom observations and reporting findings to the school director.
  • Perform ProCare audits and conduct ProCare team member training to ensure proper communication with families.
  • Conduct quarterly learning environment audits and provide copies to the Academic Department and the School Director.
  • Ensure learning environments, manipulatives, bins, and indoor/outdoor equipment are safe and free from hazards. Report all maintenance requests immediately and, if necessary, purchase replacements.
  • In addition to classroom needs, purchase resource room supplies and maintain the organization of the resource room.
  • Facilitate assigned tasks and projects as provided by the Department of Academic Development.
  • Relate to children, families, and team members with courtesy, respect, acceptance, compassion, and patience.

Requirements

Work Environment

This job operates in a childcare environment. The position will interact with children in early learning classrooms daily.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here represent those that a team member must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. The team members must frequently sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. They must also frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, generally Monday through Friday, with occasional extended hours for training or center needs.

Travel

Local travel is occasionally required for training and team member development activities, and overnight travel is occasionally required for conference attendance.

Required Education and Experience

• Meet DFPS minimum education and experience caregiver requirements.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Two years of experience in childcare administration

• Five years of experience in curriculum implementation

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

• Meet minimum age, education, background check, and medical qualifications for caregivers established by DFPS Licensing

• Complete annual training as required by DFPS Licensing

• Maintain Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certifications.
