Job Description - Director of Education and Outreach
Education Coordinator
Primary responsibilities relate to education, outreach and execution of these efforts for the Program Department. This includes, but is not limited to, managing and implementing the Foundation’s educational events; conducting epilepsy awareness & first aid presentations; and assisting with program outreach through a variety of initiatives. The candidate must be self-directed with the ability to work with little supervision, have good organizational skills, flexibility and cooperation in fulfilling role obligations.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Providing epilepsy awareness and first aid trainings for public and professional audiences by:
Scheduling epilepsy and seizure first aid trainings, health fairs, and other community outreach opportunities across all service areas
Conducting epilepsy awareness and first aid presentations for selected target audiences
Overseeing the Epilepsy Foundation of Southeast Tennessee display table at community outreach events
2. Assisting with the outreach efforts of the Epilepsy Foundation of Southeast Tennessee:
Educational Outreach – Targeted and measurable communication with a variety of audiences to educate and promote our programs and services
Outreach methods include, but are not limited to: phone calls, face-to-face visits, signing up as a vendor at community outreach events, attending health council meetings, emails, local media campaigns, etc

3. Managing the planning, organizing, and implementation of all educational events of the Epilepsy Foundation Southeast Tennessee by:
Working with vendors, volunteers, sponsors, and others to coordinate and plan educational andnetworking events
Assisting with the implementation and evaluation of educational and networking events
4. Maintaining an appropriate and effective rapport with external contacts and Foundation team members
5. Responsible for participating in the team effort to accomplish the Foundation’s mission statement, goals and strategic plan by:
Collaborating & communicating effectively with other team members
Attending and participating in internal meetings as scheduled
Participating in events and programs at various locations across our service area
6. Support and adhere to the Foundation’s policies and practices
7. Provide linkage and support to individuals with epilepsy and their families in order to facilitate their involvement with available community resources including Foundation services and specialized medical care.
8. Collaborate with community organizations and relevant organizations to further promote epilepsy education in underrepresented and underserved communities.
9. Collect education/training statistical data and assist with grant administration and compliance tasks.
10. Create and utilize pre/post tests and evaluation tools for all educational programs, as appropriate.
Skills and Abilities Required:
Must have excellent verbal communication skills, including comfort and experience with public speaking
Must be detail oriented, a team player, and be able to multi-task with a wide variety of on-going projects
Must be able to build and maintain an extensive knowledge of epilepsy, our mission, and our programs; and effectively communicate it to others in a variety of settings
Must have superior collaboration skills, including proven ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders
Must be an energetic, organized, individual with excellent people skills
Must possess the ability to represent the Foundation in a professional and ethical manner
Must have excellent written communication skills
Must be willing and able to perform physical work with the ability to stand for extended periods of time, carry, climb, stoop and to load/unload various objects up to 25 lbs
Must be willing to travel and work flexible hours. The Epilepsy Foundation Southeast TN covers the southeast and western portions of Tennessee and parts of north Georgia; therefore, this position will require traveling and will include overnight travel, weekends and/or evening events (all travel is reimbursed).
Knowledge and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field
Experience with coordination of health fairs, education, public speaking, conferences, or similar events preferred
Non-profit experience preferred
Computer skills and knowledge of: Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc.) Ability to set up slides and presentations at various locations throughout the community, utilizing the technological tools available to them.
Experience using Zoom Platforms
Connection to epilepsy is ideal
English and Spanish speaking preferred
Working Conditions:
This position requires employees to provide a home office space for Zoom meetings and trainings. The Foundation will provide a laptop and any necessary adaptors for educational purposes as well as reimbursement for personal phone usage.
Must have a personal cell phone and use our office phone app GOVOIP for work related phone calls.
Physical activity, including reaching, bending, lifting, and prolonged periods of standing, may be required when participating in and preparing for Foundation programs.
Ability to travel and reliably get to and from community presentations, events, and meetings across the state is required.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
