The Director of Engineering will lead a team of engineers to develop and deliver high-quality solutions. You will be responsible for overseeing the technical direction, execution, and success of engineering projects while managing and mentoring a team of software engineers. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to deliver on business objectives.
Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Development:
Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, technical excellence, and accountability.
Develop clear career paths and growth opportunities for team members.
Product Design & Development:
Drive innovation in product design and development to meet market and customer needs.
Oversee the design for manufacturability (DFM) processes to ensure high quality and cost-effective production.
Ensure that all products meet applicable regulatory and safety standards.
Process Improvement & manufacturing Optimization:
Collaborate with production teams to identify and implement process improvements that increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve quality.
Utilize Lean, Six Sigma, and other methodologies to drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
Ensure timely troubleshooting and resolution of production issues.
Project Management:
Lead and manage multiple engineering projects, ensuring they meet deadlines, budgets, and specifications.
Establish and monitor project KPIs, timelines, and budgets to ensure successful completion and alignment with business objectives.
Work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., Production, Quality, Supply Chain) to integrate engineering solutions across the organization.
Collaboration & Cross-Functional Leadership:
Serve as a technical advisor to the leadership team and provide input on strategic decisions regarding product and process development.
Partner with other departments, such Quality, Supply Chain, and Customer Support, to ensure seamless product lifecycle management.
Act as a liaison with clients, vendors, and other external stakeholders to gather feedback and ensure customer satisfaction.
Compliance & Risk Management:
Ensure that engineering practices comply with all relevant industry standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
Identify, evaluate, and mitigate technical risks associated with product design and manufacturing processes.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
Master’s degree preferred but not required with relevant experience.
Prior experience in the valve and regulator vertical market.
Led a design engineering team and new product development (NPD) process including FEA/CDF (Computational Flow Dynamics).
Product lifecycle management experience.
Skilled at hiring and developing engineers.
Ability to lead and coach remote engineering teams.
Proven experience collaborating with various departments (Sales, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Finance, HR, ect.)
Understand how BOM’s are created and a general understanding of manufacturing methods.
Other Notable Requirements:
Design Software – ProE, Catia, agnostic.
Some experience with international design contractor (preferred).
Some client facing experience (preferred).
