Title: Director of Events
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Job Description
I. Organizational Overview
Philadelphia Youth Basketball, Inc. (PYB), officially launched in June of 2015, is a community-built youth development and community empowerment organization that leverages the iconic game of basketball to help today’s urban youth overcome the most urgent and systemic issues facing underserved communities. A diverse and impassioned group of individuals, including leaders from the grass-roots to the tree-tops, have been working diligently to execute this mission by building an impactful program, a robust and sustainable organization, and ultimately our world-class Sixth Man Center to help uplift thousands of children, youth, and families for generations to come.
PYB aims to instill six key tenets of its community agreement principles from top to bottom across its organization and young people:
The PYB Team will be working diligently to ensure that this 100,000-square-foot youth development and community empowerment Center is fully optimized during peak and off-peak hours to drive social impact and generate operating revenues for cost coverage purposes. Our business model, comprised of almost exclusively contributed revenue from private philanthropy and a smaller amount from public sector sources, will be transformed into approximately 50% contributed and 50% earned revenue once the Center is operational. Of the earned revenue, approximately half, or $1,500,000 - $1,750,000, will come from facility rentals as opposed to income-sensitive program fees. The facility rentals will include basketball tournaments, showcase games, adult leagues, and team camps, as well as non-basketball usage for events such as conferences, corporate retreats, school graduations, weddings and engagement parties, family reunions, mitzvahs, craft shows, and an occasional non-profit gala that is not our own. The Director of Basketball Operations? will lead the securing of basketball-related events, while the Director of Events will lead the non-basketball events.
