Job Description - Director of Faith Formation & Evangelization

Job Summary

To service St Luke Catholic Church, Temple, TX, by facilitating the spiritual and community life of its clergy, staff and parishioners by collaborating with the Director of Religious Education to develop a family focused catechetical program which includes adult catechetical instruction that aids and encourages parents as the primary teachers in their family’s faith formation and a catechetical program for Elementary through High School grades (Faith Formation Program).

Ministerial Character

The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish of St. Luke Catholic Church which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Positions employed at St. Luke Catholic Church help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.

Essential Job Duties: 

· As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of St. Luke Catholic Church in both your professional and personal life.

· Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.

· Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.

· Develop, organize and produce Family Faith Formation materials for all grade levels.

· Ability to recruit, screen, train, assist and supervise religious education volunteers and to maintain appropriate paper records of such matters, including:

1. religious education instructors ("Catechists");

2. hospitality teams to make and serve meals and other refreshments; and

3. service volunteers for setup, teardown, cleanup and other event tasks.

· Coordinate and conduct Family Faith events, including:

1. recruiting participant families;

2. assigning children to classes for age appropriate instruction and sacramental preparation;

3. preparing and presenting prayer services for Faith Formation events;

4. ensuring compliance with all Diocesan requirements including implementing the Called to Protect for Youth and Children; and

5. preparing take home catechetical material for Faith Formation events and providing instruction and guidance to parents in person or via telephone and e-mail as appropriate.

· Ability to create and manage an annual budget and to create and maintain all records, supplies and materials necessary and appropriate for Faith Formation programs including:

1. registering all participants and catechists in the Ministry Platform Data System ("MP") and creating such paper records as may be appropriate to ensure all required documentation;

2. ensuring that all catechists complete the Diocesan Application for Ministry, receive a satisfactory background check and attend an Ethics in Ministry workshop every three years; and

3. maintaining all records required for Sacraments including entering such data into parish registries and Ministry Platform, issuance of Sacramental certificates and notification of parishes of baptism of completed Sacraments.

· Ability to develop and implement other family faith formation and catechist enrichment programs, including:

1. Father-Daughter Dance;

2. Soccer Bible, Mission Trip

3. Catechist retreats and banquet.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Knowledge of the structure and basic teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.

· Ability to abide by the moral and ethical norms of the Roman Catholic Church and to share in the same general covenant relationship to minister to the people of God and to model to the larger community the teachings of the Church.

· Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with the Church Community.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Trainings:

· A baccalaureate or higher degree in relevant studies or equivalent education and/or experience

Experience:

· Two (2) years of related full time wage earning experience.

Language:

· English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing)

· Spanish (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing). Preferred but not required.

Catholic Requirement:

· Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.

Licenses/Certifications:

· Valid Texas driver’s license.

· Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.

  

Working Conditions:

· All employees of the Parish are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the church. 

· The Parish is an at-will employer.

· All buildings and vehicles owned by the Parish are tobacco free.

· Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.

· Working on weekends, evenings, and some holidays may be required.

· Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations. 

· Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.

· May be required to use personal or parish vehicle to drive to off-site locations.

· Travelling within and outside the parish to meetings and other events may be required, and travel may require overnight lodging.
