Job Description - Director of Film Production


Description



AMDA College of the Performing Arts, with campuses in New York City and Hollywood, is one of the foremost post-secondary performing arts colleges in the country. AMDA offers various pathways for students to receive unparalleled performing arts education taught by world-class industry professionals, including Professional Conservatory Certificates as well as undergraduate and graduate degrees (Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Associate of Occupational Studies, Master of Fine Arts and Master of Arts).
 
The Director of Film Production oversees all Student Film Productions including Academic Outcomes (AO) and Artists’ Lab (AL); supports instructional needs across filmmaking courses, maintains campus-wide production protocols, supervises production staff, tracks budgets and cost reports, and ensures safe, AMDA standard practices for all student and departmental film projects.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Maintain student film “greenlight process” and all production protocols including assistance with film permits, compliance, Certificates of Insurance, claims, external rentals/returns, location booking/coordination, etc.
  • Review, approve and coordinate Student projects for AMDA/Industry standards including safety, production feasibility, budgets, schedules, crew lists, parking, added staffing of coordinators and coaches.
  • Collaborate with department chairs and instructors to support course production needs.
  • Supervise AMDA’s film equipment manager and oversee student workers in film production.
  • Assist AO division of Film Production in planning curricular projects, including schedules, location bookings, film crews, and on-set coordination.
  • Aid in the management and coordination of all phases of Artists Lab projects including evaluation panels, greenlight/student meetings, through production completion.
  • Create and manage film production budgets, track expenditures, and produce final wrap-out reports.
  • Oversee the AMDA film department prop and costume rental system.
  • Oversee the On-Camera and Filmmaking Department's Capstone screenings and coordinate venue, deliverables, and ticketing.
  • Submit purchase orders for new equipment and maintain equipment lists for film-related departments.
  • Other institutional duties as assigned may include visiting film sets, teaching courses, attending AMDA semester events.
 
Qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge of film production, safety protocols, and industry standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple productions simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to review scripts, budgets, schedules, and production materials for compliance. Proficiency with production planning tools, permitting processes, and equipment management.
  • Prior teaching experience is a plus.
 
Position Information:
  • This is a full-time position, working on average 40 hours per week. Schedule is based on department and organizational needs. May be required to work an alternate schedule (which may include evenings and/or weekends) on occasion based on department and organizational needs.
  • The pay range for this position is $87,000 - $95,000 annually.
  • This position is subject to a background check upon a conditional offer of employment and a reference check.
  • This is a fully in-person Position.
