JOB TITLE: Director Of Finance

REPORTS TO: CEO

DEPARTMENT: Finance

HOURS: 40 Hours

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Finance is responsible for the strategic planning, coordination, and oversight of the Company’s financial operations, in partnership with the Controller. This role plays a critical leadership function in strengthening financial processes, ensuring compliance with grant and regulatory requirements, and modernizing finance operations through system integration, automation, and cross-functional collaboration.

The Director of Finance will actively support initiatives to improve workflows and operational efficiency, including integration and optimization of financial systems such as Salesforce and QuickBooks. A key focus of this role is improving interdepartmental communication and collaboration, particularly with customer-facing teams—to standardize invoicing, contracts, and billing processes, resulting in timely, accurate, and efficient revenue recognition.

This position requires a strong commitment to both internal and external customer service, a continuous-improvement mindset, and a passion for leveraging technology to enhance financial operations. The Director of Finance will also coordinate closely with the New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) to ensure accurate, timely submission of all required financial deliverables and support ongoing audits.

This role is critical to the Company’s quarterly and annual financial reporting, including the annual independent audit and Form 990 tax filings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Support the preparation and timely submission of monthly expenditure reports under the Company’s primary NYeC grant, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance.

  • Partner with the Controller to manage and report against dual budgets for the SHIN-NY contract (NYeC fiscal year and Company calendar year).

  • Coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial deliverables to NYeC, including support for expenditure audits and related documentation (“back-up guides”).

  • Assist external tax accountants with preparation of the Company’s Form 990 and other required tax filings.

Revenue, Billing & Controls

  • Support all billing and collections related to contract revenues, ensuring invoices are accurate, timely, and aligned with contractual terms.

  • Collaborate closely with Customer Success, Project Management, Sales, and QA teams to standardize and improve invoicing and contract workflows.

  • Ensure appropriate revenue recognition by reviewing contracts, Statements of Work (SOWs), and supporting documentation.

  • Monitor and enhance internal controls, checks and balances, and financial governance practices.

Accounting Operations

  • Contribute to maintenance of the general ledger, journal entries, and books of account.

  • Support the monthly closing process and preparation of schedules and analyses for quarterly Finance and Audit Committee meetings.

  • Support the year-end close activities and preparation of all audit schedules and supporting documentation.

Strategic & Operational Support

  • Participate in quarterly Audit Committee and Finance Committee meetings.

  • Assist the Controller in preparing financial analyses and materials for Executive Leadership and Board meetings.

  • Prepare ad hoc financial analyses for the CEO, senior leadership, and Board as requested.

Continuous Improvement

  • Proactively review expenses and financial processes to identify cost-saving opportunities and operational efficiencies.

  • Lead and support finance department modernization efforts, including automation, system integration, and policy development.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • None directly; provides functional oversight and leadership within the Finance department.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), State of New York.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel and Salesforce.

  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive professional accounting or finance experience, preferably within a nonprofit or grant-funded environment.

  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Experience with month-end and year-end closings, audits, and complex reconciliations.

  • Experience with grant accounting and administration, including NYS and federal funding.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting A-133 or similar grant audits.

  • Experience implementing or optimizing financial systems and automation.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement financial policies and procedures.
