Job Description - Director of Finance

Position Summary: 


The Director of Finance is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year end audit preparation and the support of budget/ forecast activities. The Director of Finance will have contact with senior-level management (managers, directors and senior executives) including Chief Financial Officer, and Accounting which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.


Support the HPH dashboard of key financial metrics that are aligned with enterprise strategies and monitors performance against key priorities while identifying opportunities for improvement and increased efficiency. These metrics will be transparent and accessible to all levels of the organization from the Board down to each department.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Create and manage strategic relationships with external Finance & Accounting service providers, including banks and auditors as well as establishing and maintaining strong relationships with internal senior executives to identify their needs and provide a full range of business solutions.

  • Act as the Finance and Accounting Subject Matter Expert for the organization.

  • Provide strategic recommendations based on financial analysis, projections and other relevant data as appropriate.

  • Provide advice, counsel and creative approaches for managing emergent finance, accounting, information systems, facilities and business issues as necessary

  • Assist in month end and cost reports;

  • Supervise, coach and lead accounting team.

  • Lead external reporting and tax preparations processes.

  • Primary contact and responsibility for external audit processes.

  • Manage relationships with and services provided by public accounting firm.

  • Research accounting technical issues and form and document conclusions (e.g., accounting for leases, capitalization policies, long-lived assets, etc.)

  • Ensure control environment is well-maintained and policies and procedures are appropriate.

  • Develop efficient and scalable processes to enable the department supports both the Hospital and Medical Group and to produce more relevant and reliable data.

  • Research accounting technical issues and form and document conclusions (e.g., accounting for income taxes, stock compensation, leases, and long-lived assets.)

  • Ensure control environment is well-maintained and policies and procedures are appropriate.

  • Set monthly close calendar and monitor progress against key dates.

  • Run the monthly close meeting, including review of basic financial statements, variations to budget, key analytics.

  • Provide key inputs for the annual budgeting process as well as periodic forecasting.

  • Enhance and upgrade our accounting and financial reporting systems.

  • Treasury functions, including daily cash management, cash flow and balance sheet forecasting, management of working capital accounts (ACH, positive pay transactions, Active Pay processing, etc.)

  • Perform annual reviews of key members of department and provide updates on various key tactical initiatives.

  • Monitors and analyzes AR to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

  • Develop and implements Fiscal Services policies and procedures.

  • Hire, orient, counsel, and evaluate the performance for direct reports. Effectively supports and promotes the development of staff.


Qualifications:



  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

  • CPA or MBA preferred

  • Healthcare experience is a plus
