Director of Human Resources

 BCHN is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to serve as our Director of Human Resources. In this pivotal role, you will lead the development and implementation of HR strategies and best practices across talent acquisition, employee relations, professional development, employee engagement, compensation, benefits, and performance management. The Director of Human Resources serves as a trusted advisor to leadership, ensuring that HR initiatives are aligned with the organization's mission, values, and long-term organizational objectives.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Director of Human Resources collaborates closely with the CEO, CFO, and other members of the Executive Leadership Team to address the organization's evolving workforce needs, strengthen organizational culture, ensure compliance with applicable employment laws and regulations, and support BCHN's long-term success.

Bronx Community Health Network (BCHN) was founded in 1996 to ensure that low-income and medically underserved residents of the Bronx have access to high-quality and comprehensive healthcare services. BCHN is a not-for-profit, community-based organization and Federally Qualified Health Center. The organization provides a wide range of comprehensive, coordinated primary medical, oral, and mental health care and related diagnostic, pharmacy, social support, and enabling services for medically underserved/uninsured residents.

BCHN’s mission is to improve the health of people and families in the Bronx; provide access to affordable, quality health care, especially for uninsured people; promote disease prevention, early treatment and healthful lifestyles; and obtain financial and other resources for programs and services. BCHN’s service area includes the entire borough of the Bronx, including all 25 zip codes. Within this area, Health Center sites focus on the low-income and underserved populations.

OVERVIEW OF PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Director of Human Resources provides strategic direction and oversight for all human resources functions, ensuring that workforce initiatives align with BCHN's mission, values, and strategic objectives.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute Human Resources strategies that support the organization’s healthcare mission, community values, and long-term goals. 
• Lead organizational planning around workforce shortages, credentialing requirements, and volunteer programs common in nonprofit healthcare environments. 
• Partner with leadership to address staffing needs, especially in clinical and support service areas. 
• Oversee recruitment strategies that attract mission-aligned clinical providers, care teams, and administrative talent. 
• Establish strong partnerships with nursing schools, medical programs, and community job pipelines. 
• Drive retention initiatives for high-demand healthcare roles and reduce turnover in patient-facing positions. 
• Promote a culture grounded in compassion, equity, patient-centered care, and nonprofit values. 
• Support managers in resolving complex employee relations issues with sensitivity and confidentiality. 
• Oversee employee engagement programs, recognition initiatives, and wellness strategies to prevent burnout among healthcare staff. 
• Manage training programs that support compliance, continuing education, and professional development for clinical and non-clinical staff. 
• Support credentialing, certification tracking, and licensure compliance for positions requiring certification.
• Oversee compensation strategies mindful of nonprofit budget constraints while ensuring equity and competitiveness. 
• Manage employee benefit offerings that support the emotional, physical, and financial well-being of staff, including mental health support for frontline workers. 
• Conduct periodic market salary reviews relevant to nonprofit healthcare roles. 
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws as well as healthcare-specific regulations (HIPAA, credentialing requirements). 
• Maintain?accurate?employee records, training documentation, and HR compliance files. 
• Update HR policies to reflect changes in employment and healthcare regulations. 
• Oversee HRIS systems and leverage data to guide hiring, retention, and workforce planning decisions. 
• Improve efficiency of HR processes, onboarding workflows, and clinical credentialing procedures. 
• Produce regular HR metrics and reports for executive leadership and board committees. 
• Maintain knowledge of and compliance with FQHC, HRSA, Article 28, HIPAA, OSHA, infection control, patient privacy, and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Support audit readiness, survey preparation, documentation standards, and organizational policies as applicable to the role. 
• Perform other duties as assigned based on organizational needs, including support for new site openings, mobile health operations, emergency preparedness, and special projects. 

Experience and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Healthcare Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. 
• 8+ years of progressive HR experience, including leadership roles within healthcare, nonprofit, or mission-driven environments. FQHC experience a plus.
• Strong knowledge of employment law, healthcare workforce requirements, and nonprofit HR practices. 
• Experience supporting clinical teams and navigating healthcare compliance requirements. 
• Experience supporting senior leadership and translating strategic goals into operational HR plans. 
• Demonstrated experience managing complex employee relations matters, including workplace investigations, performance management, and separations. 
• Track record of using engagement and retention data to surface culture trends and recommend proactive solutions. 
• HR certification (SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, PHR/SPHR)?preferred

Location: Bronx, NY

Salary Range: The base salary range for this position is $120,000 – $150,000 annually.

The total compensation for the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The base salary range listed above is a good faith determination of potential base compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
