Job Description - Director of Immigration Services

Immigration Services at Catholic Charities is dedicated to keeping families together and fostering a welcoming environment. We provide immigration legal advice, including, but not limited to:
  • Assistance with the preparation of Family Visa petitions
  • Assistance with adjustment of status applications
  • Consular Visa Processing: including assistance with waivers for triggering unlawful presence bars
  • Naturalization/Citizenship Services (N-400 and N-600 applications)
  • Re-entry Permit/Travel Document
  • Employment Authorization
  • Family Unity
  • Other immigration needs related to Visa procedures
​Our philosophy is to provide honest, clear, and detailed answers to all immigration concerns. We empower immigrants by sharing knowledge of immigration laws and how they may impact their status. This collaborative approach not only improves the lives of individuals and families but also enriches the community as a whole.

Under general direction from the executive director, the Immigration Services program director sets strategic priorities for the program and ongoing supervision of staff to ensure the program is meeting the needs of the community as best possible, excellence in service quality, and that everyone works productively toward common goals. The program director also manages a select number of client cases that align with his/her expertise and availability.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership
  • Collaborate with the executive director to establish and implement strategic direction for the program.
  • Work with the executive director to ensure quality services and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Ensure program development aligns with client choice, regulatory standards, and best practices.
  • Determine staffing requirements and participate in the hiring process.
  • Ensure staff are trained accurately and effectively.
  • Regularly evaluate staff, complete annual performance reviews, and establish individual development goals.
  • Inform relevant directors of potential or actual risks and make recommendations to avert them.
  • Develop and maintain client-sensitive policies and procedures for excellent customer service and satisfaction.
  • Develop the annual program budget and operate the program within the constraints of the budget.
  • Research grant opportunities, oversee, and monitor grant compliance.
Case Management
  • Interview clients for immigration and naturalization services, identify appropriate services, inform clients of eligibilities, risks, processes, and procedures, and follow up on immigration procedures.
  • Prepare and submit required applications and forms to immigration services.
  • Maintain accurate and complete client files, compile and submit statistical data.
  • Stay current with immigration developments and regulations and communicate updates to staff and management.
  • Must obtain accreditation through the Department of Justice within 18 months of employment with the agency, if not already accredited.
Other
  • Promote program services and maintain professional contact with community partners.
  • Represent the program professionally to interested groups through discussions or seminars.
  • Understand and support the mission of Catholic Charities, acting as a representative.
  • Other duties as assigned by the executive director.
EDUCATION
  • A degree in social work or other human services field is preferred. 
EXPERIENCE
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in a supervisory or administrative role with a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain program goals and priorities and build successful teams is required.'
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ related experience in immigration legal work is required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Technologically savvy.
  • Ability to speak publicly with ease.
EXPOSURES:
  • Controlled inside work environment with noise/vibrations from general office equipment.
  • Minimal exposure to fumes/dust/odors.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Work Type: Medium, exerting up to 70 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 40 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Climbing/Balancing/Freedom to Move: May be assigned to multilevel building with some floors accessible by stairs only.
  • Stooping/Bending: Frequent.
  • Reaching: Occasional, overhead as well as horizontal and down.
  • Vision: Adequate to perform essential functions. Color vision: No color vision requirement. Hearing: Frequently perceive nature of sounds by ear.
  • Speech: Frequently express ideas by means of spoken words.
  • Eye/Hand/Foot Coordination: Frequently operates equipment requiring moderate ability.
  • Manual Dexterity: Frequently operates equipment requiring moderate ability.
