OPPORTUNITY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Salary Range: $130,000 -$155,000

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Individual Giving (Director) is a strategic leader in SFFILM’s commitment to attracting, retaining, and engaging donors to support our mission-driven work through financial and in-kind contributions. Leading a full-time team of two and in coordination with the Director of Corporate Partnerships, the Director of Individual Giving is a primary architect in the design and deployment of SFFILM’s fundraising activities and operations for individuals.

Working closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, the Director will create and execute annual and multi-year philanthropic strategies and campaigns to increase contributed revenue from individual donors and through Membership. This position, in collaboration with the Executive Director and the senior leadership team, will steward and solicit current and prospective Board Members and major donors. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for oversight of fundraising initiatives, including SFFILM’s annual event, Awards Night.

The Director will be required to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, at various points throughout the year and will require occasional local and California-based travel.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Director reports to the Executive Director and is a member of SFFILM’s senior leadership team. This position manages two full-time direct reports: the Individual Giving Assistant Manager and the Development Database and Membership Manager.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising & Cultivation

  • Develop and execute a multi-year, sustainable fundraising plan to expand SFFILM’s contributed revenue through a growing network of individual donors.
  • Expand and maintain a portfolio of major gift individual donors and prospects; communicate with the portfolio through face-to-face solicitation and stewardship meetings, as well as written strategies.
  • Build and foster a cross-departmental culture of philanthropy that capitalizes on organizational priorities and assets.
  • Implement multi-year campaigns to meet organizational goals and fundraising priorities.
  • Work in conjunction with the Executive Director in stewarding Board member relationships and communication, including prospecting and cultivating new Board Members.
  • Work in coordination with the Membership program to meet annual goals and migrate donors up the loyalty ladder.
  • Lead the design, planning, and execution of SFFILM Awards Night and all other fundraising and cultivation events to attract and engage new and existing funders and audiences.
  • Work with Development team on screening and preparing profiles of current and prospective members and donors; establish best practices for donor research processes; and oversee the maintenance of donor lists, applied data analytics, and moves management tracking.
  • Collaborate with Board Development Committee Chair(s) to help orchestrate committee meetings for presentation at Board of Directors meetings.

Leadership & Finance

  • Partner with the Executive Director to provide strategic and visionary leadership.
  • Lead a team of two direct reports (Individual Giving Assistant Manager, Development Database and Membership Manager) and support the management of additional development and seasonal hires, as needed.
  • Create and oversee the Individual Giving expense and revenue budget.
  • Lead monthly revenue tracking and planning meetings with the Executive Director, report on progress toward goals to the Executive Director and Board, including gifts, pledges, and cash-flow projections.
  • Oversee coordination with the Finance department, ensure accurate and aligned revenue tracking in the donor CRM (DonorPerfect) and QuickBooks database, and maintain compliance standards for funding sources.
  • Oversee coordination with the Communications department and collaborate on materials and marketing strategies for all fundraising activities.
  • Recruit, nurture, and motivate a strong professional team.

COMPETENCIES

  • Successful experience managing a major gifts portfolio for an organization with annual contributed revenue of at least $6 million.
  • Five to seven years of direct experience managing fundraising portfolios with demonstrated success in closing gifts of $10,000-$500,000 and above.
  • Three to five years’ experience managing fundraising staff.
  • Experience leading full fundraising campaign lifecycles, including multiple simultaneous campaigns on different timelines.
  • Familiarity with the Bay Area philanthropic community and national giving landscape.
  • Ability to conceive, plan, and execute a major gifts program, including annual giving and special events.
  • Experience leading decision-making and budget prioritization for gala-style fundraising events.
  • Experience with developing and maintaining achievable and ambitious financial projections and budgets, reconciled in coordination with the Finance department.
  • Strong donor database experience is highly desired, preferably with DonorPerfect.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to communicate professionally with colleagues, donors, and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, persuasive presentation, and negotiation abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize workload in a timely manner to complete assignments when faced with many deadlines and competing requirements in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exemplary work ethic and professional manner.
  • Understanding of and interest in the film industry helpful, but not required.
