Job Description - Director of Institutional Advancement and Outreach

Job Summary:


 


The Director of Institutional Advancement and Outreach will lead the college in raising funds to support operations, provide student scholarships, create partnerships, bring in new resources, and identify and pursue funding needed to expand and provide quality educational programs. Director of Institutional Advancement and Outreach will meet academic and professional qualifications, demonstrate dedication to academic excellence and student-centered education, and will support the mission and objectives of Bay Mills Community College.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


 


Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan for Bay Mills Community College.



  • Conduct a needs assessment to identify the financial, physical, and human unmet needs of the organization and estimate the financial amount of those unmet needs.

  • Set an annual fundraising goal.

  • Develop a fundraising plan, including marketing and communications budget, strategies, tactics, and timelines, and submit to President for review and approval.

  • Identify and cultivate new donors from various sectors of the tribal, local, state, federal, and global communities.

  • Identify and acquire fundraising software to help manage donor communications and gift giving.


Execute fundraising events to meet annual monetary goals to support operations, student programming, and scholarships.



  • Execute special events, online fundraising, and direct mail campaigns.

  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit annual, major, and planned gifts from donors.

  • Develop fundraising policies to support all aspects of fundraising activities.

  • Develop and build and electronic donor database to track donor related information.

  • Produce proposals, reports, analyses, and post-event reports to present to the President and management team.


Market and promote the activities and events of the fundraising and advancement office.



  • Market and advertise fundraising campaigns.

  • Responsible for ensuring communications complete with brand design standards, telling meaningful stories, driving increased engagement and/or contributing to excellent audience experiences.

  • Prepare and make presentations to various constituents.

  • Local, state, and national travel will be required to support the college’s fundraising programs and to develop relations with potential partners and donors.


Collaborate with other BMCC team members to:



  • Assist in meeting BMCC’s goals with student recruitment;

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with high school administrators, teachers, and counselors;

  • Implement a consistent message and brand, while promoting BMCC’s Academic Programs.

  • Other duties may be assigned within the scope and complexity of the position description.



Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


 



  • Understanding of BMCC’s collegiate academic programs.

  • Advanced word processing and computer skills, understanding of collegiate student and course management systems preferred. Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Google Apps.

  • Understanding of fundraising principles an ethics, which include providing honest and accurate presentation materials, engaging ion ethical solicitation tactics, assuring confidentiality of donor information and/or obtaining appropriate permission to publish or share.

  • Ability to engage people and help them to understand how their interests match the interest and needs of Bay Mills Community College.

  • Ability to connect with people at various levels and make a convincing and powerful statement to them about Bay Mills Community College.

  • Demonstrated understanding of and a commitment to the tribal college mission and purpose teaching and learning, high academic standards, and student success.


 


Education and Experience:


 



  • Must have a documented master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Marketing, Community Development, Event Planning, Project Management, or related field. Will consider candidates without a master’s degree, provided they must obtain one within three (3) years of employment.

  • One to three years of experience in a fundraising position.

  • One to three years of experience working with a public educational institution and/or non-profit 501(c)3 organization preferred.

  • Experience with event planning and budgeting.

  • Excellent written communication and organization skills.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with others, college and departmental committee experience preferred.

  • Knowledge or experience working with people of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs.

  • Knowledge or experience in working with Native Americans, in an educational setting preferred.
