Job Description - Director of Materials

Description
JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Materials is responsible to the VP of Client Relations for the management of Airside MRO’s Purchasing and Stores departments. This includes compliance with all the applicable CFRs, customer requirements, and the company’s own policies and procedures.
The Materials Manager will oversee the planning, procurement, storage, control, and distribution of materials and products according to company needs and customer requirements.
REPORTS TO:
The Director of Materials reports directly to the VP of Client Relations
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directs and oversees the Purchasing and Stores Departments and supervisory staff.
Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
Handles discipline of employees in accordance with company policy.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Follow all Federal, Airside MRO, and OSHA regulations where applicable.
Directly oversees the Purchasing Department in the procurement of materials/consumables for ongoing work
Directly oversees the Stores Department to ensure proper management of stock items
Ensures that Airside MRO only purchases/stores those items that are approved per FAA/EASA regulations
Maintain proper traceability for all purchased items
Ensure that the ongoing shelf-life log is properly maintained per Airside/FAA/EASA procedures
Serve as inspector for those items that do not meet the requirements of the EASA Supplement and perform return to service inspections (requires Repairman Certificate)
Directs production and inventory control, shipping and receiving, and materials storage.
Maintains inventory levels to ensure deliveries occur within customer timelines.
Maintains and ensures accuracy of the perpetual inventory system.
Works with purchasing department to schedule delivery of materials, supplies, and equipment.
Oversees shipping and receiving functions related to purchased parts and finished goods.
Identifies opportunities to reduce transportation costs and charges.
Manages and monitors storage of purchased parts and finished goods.
Performs write-offs on damaged or obsolete inventory to reflect accurate value of inventory.
Establishes procedures for conducting and valuing year-end physical inventory.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to train staff.
Thorough understanding of quality control standards and methodologies.
Thorough understanding of aircraft parts, consumables, and documentation related to each
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Part 145 Repair Station experience preferred
5 or more years of Purchasing, Stores, and Receiving Inspection required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to perform work on scaffolding or ladders
Must be able to lift and pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds at a time
Must have visual acuity to inspect incoming articles and identify defects
