Job Description Summary:

Plans, organizes, and directs the daily operations of the medical oncology & hematology clinic at the Kirkland Cancer Center. Manages the employees providing treatment, evaluation and management to patients at the Kirkland Cancer Center to assure uniformity of care, efficiencies, and productivity throughout the clinical areas. This leadership should promote a professional practice environment consistent with a world-class cancer center. Works with physicians and hospital leadership to achieve and maintain all aspects of KCC clinical operations, customer service, finance, human resources, and quality outcome management. Employee is subject to call back as required by the hospital.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assumes an active leadership role with the cancer center’s organized leadership structure, which includes medical staff, and other management staff and departments within the hospital.
  • Communicates with the Executive Director, medical staff, and other leaders in established meetings for the purpose of discussing nursing care policies, management  needs, patient and staff needs, as well as future planning and departmental goals.
  • Investigates causes of grievances and complaints of patients, physicians, visitors,  employees and reports to the appropriate person.
  • Identifies recruits, develops, and retains top talent through effective communication, performance management, career counseling, and conflict resolution.
  • Manages human resource activities for all clinical and related clerical staff Accountable for design, implementation and evaluation of unit staffing plans considering  skill mix, staff and patient care outcomes.
  • Analyzes plans for compliance with established  budget.
  • Assures development, implementation and evaluation of evidenced based, quality clinical nursing practice consistent with current nursing research, institutional and national practice standards.
  • Coaches and mentors team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources. 
  • Actively participates in, assists and/or leads improvement projects; embraces, communicates, and promotes effective change.
  • Initiates, manages, monitors and improves center performance and processes based on outcome data assuring high quality standards.
  • Recognizes and takes action to prevent at risk behavior i.e., non-adherence to policy, standards of care, practice.
  • Reviews patient and staff satisfaction data and responds with appropriate action plans.
  • Develops and maintains a positive work climate for all departments while making decisions regarding structure and process.
  • Works in cooperation with WTH and physicians to meet all external regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Completion of an associate, diploma, or baccalaureate degree in Nursing. BSN preferable or equivalent nursing leadership experience generally obtained in 5-10 years management and leadership experience in a nursing or clinical area.

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:

  • Current RN licensure as approved for practice in the State of Tennessee required,

      EXPERIENCE:

  • Proficiency in current practices and techniques in specific area of clinical expertise as acquired through 5-10 years clinical experience, preferred.
  • Previous leadership, management and supervisory experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Skill and proficiency training in the principles, concepts, and techniques of the nursing profession for providing care to adult and geriatric patients.
  • Aptitudes of verbal ability required to express ideas effectively when speaking to groups and hospital personnel.  Ability to gather and analyze data and prepare reports.
  • Numerical ability required to evaluate statistical data and to make various computations in planning departmental operations and budget
