Job Description - Director of Mortgage Production

Summary of position:

Primary Function:

This position is primarily responsible for driving initiatives consistent with meeting or exceeding production goals of the Credit Union for 1st and 2nd mortgage originations. This includes creating and maintaining relationships internally and externally that may influence production, as well as identifying, launching, and managing secondary market and vendor relationships. This position will work with the CLO to ensure consistent and growing interest and fee revenues are generated through managing pricing and product mix according to the Credit Union Asset Liability Management goals. Ensuring that mortgage loans are originated timely and consistent with service expectations is critical. In addition, this position will be expected to have a full understanding of the mortgage process and work with other credit union staff to ensure timely and accurate processing and closing as well as ensure that all mortgages are originated according to regulatory requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:

•Primarily responsible for ensuring that mortgage production goals are met and continuous efforts to improve market penetration for mortgage-related projects remain a priority in the department.

•Actively originate and close a pipeline of 1st mortgage loans consistent with Credit Union goals. This includes maintaining individual business development and production pipelines.

•Manage Mortgage Origination staff for 1st and 2nd mortgage originations to ensure that they are meeting/exceeding Credit Union service and production expectations

•Manage self and team to ensure that business development efforts are actively pursued through community involvement and networking with centers of influence in the community that may drive additional loan volume.

•Manage/lead product development efforts specific to ensuring that product offering is competitive and provides differentiation in the marketplace.

•Ensure pricing and structure are profitable according to budgeted expectations

•Provide timely feedback to the team by setting and communicating clear goals, conducting consistent 1:1 and team meetings, and completing performance reviews consistent with the team's ability to meet goals.

•Address any member service-related concerns. This includes proactively ensuring workflow and expectations are set for the team to deliver strong member experience and reactively working with member complaints to ensure timely resolution.

•Strategically consider gaps in loan delivery and actively participate in implementing new vendors, processes, and technology to improve those delivery gaps.

•Market Credit Union mortgage products at a grassroots level to ensure product offerings are known. Examples may include conducting homebuyer seminars, proactively marketing self and team via social media efforts & engaging with community leaders

•Work inter-departmentally and with other mortgage department team members to ensure alignment in implementing new products, educating internal team members on mortgage related offerings and overall meeting change management goals.

•Serve as a model for subordinates by adhering to the service program.

•Maintain accurate procedures for the departments' functions.

•Manage departments and serve in the capacity of any positions as needed.

•Develop, track, and follow a budget and plan. Set and obtain goals for the departments.

•Ensure that the Credit Union's Service Standards are met on a consistent basis.

•Attend training sessions and conferences to keep skills current.

•Promote a positive attitude, cooperation, professionalism, accuracy, efficiency, and desire to offer credit union services.

•Work flexible hours to meet the needs of the members to provide optimum member service.

•Obtain cooperation with the senior management team on ideas to improve the way we do business to make it easy for members to do business with us.

•Work with the internal auditor to ensure compliance with internal controls.

Requirements

Experience:

•Minimum five years' experience in supervising a Mortgage banking operation.

•Minimum five years' experience in selling, brokering, shipping and disbursing First Mortgage loans.

Education:

•College degree in Business Administration or related field preferred

Skills:

•Strong knowledge of loan products and processes

•Knowledge and understanding of mortgage lending practices, loan documentation, loan policy, regulations, underwriting, closing, and loan servicing requirements.

•A strong understanding of modern marketing strategies specifically social media networking

•Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

•Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

•Thorough understanding of Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Veterans Affairs (VA), Federal National Mortgage (Fannie Mae), and other types of construction and conventional loans.

•Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the job duties, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to sit or stand for long periods. Must be able to operate a computer and other office equipment. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The ability to lift items weighing 20 pounds is required. Must be able to travel from branch to branch every week and be able to work more than forty hours when needed. Must be able to speak clearly and see clearly with reasonable accommodation.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to changes in climate and temperature. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Local travel is required for this position.
