POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Nursing is responsible for the operations and resource management of the Nursing, Infection Control and Employee Health services of the organization. This position is responsible for the planning, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of the quality of patient care in these areas. The Director of Nursing supervises operations via the Assistant Director of Nursing and Nursing Supervisors, reporting to the Associate Director and the Chief Medical Officer. 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

1. Directs human resources management for assigned areas, including the development, implementation, and monitoring of staffing models and service delivery models responsive to the changing needs of the patient population and the organization.
2. Plans, develops, and evaluates policies, procedures, and standard operating process for the assigned areas, including new services as required, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory bodies and locak, state, and federal laws and regulations. 
3. Continuously designs, supervises, and evaluates work processes to increase quality, safety, and efficiency of services, working closely with the Chief Medical Officer and other contract physicians, other Clinical Managers, and Quality Management to accomplish these goals.
4. Participates in the development of the budget and manages financial resources within its guidelines.
5. In conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer, coordinates contracting for the provision of ancillary health services, including laboratory services, pharmacy services, urgent and emergency medical services, radiology services, etc., including monitoring for quality of same.
6. Serves as the organization’s Infection Control/Employee Health Program Specialist (see addendum). 
7. Serves on a wide variety of administrative and quality management committees, representing assigned areas; chairs the Medication Management and Infection Control sub-committees of the organization’s Safety Committee.
8. Keeps abreast of current knowledge and state of the art practices in the assigned areas, modeling and teaching best practices to supervisors and staff members, including conducts formal trainings as needed.
9. Performs all duties of a staff nurse as needed
10. Constructs monthly operating reports for assigned area.
11. Performs CPR and First Aid as needed, including automatic external defibrillation according to established policies and procedures
12. Responds to medical emergencies on the campus, directing intervention until senior nursing management, physicians, or paramedics arrive
13. Documents pertinent clinical information into the electronic patient record.
14. Ensures that a welcoming, safe and healing environment is maintained for each patient and family throughout the continuum of care.
15. Recommends ways to improve the quality and delivery of services.
16. Ensures proper handling and distribution of company funds.
17. Maintains confidentiality of company and patient information.
18. Reacts productively to change.
19. Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises Nursing department staff, including all RN and LPN staff, Medical Assistants, and Administrative Assistant. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required with Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred; current Tennessee RN licensure in good standing required; a minimum of five (5) years post graduate nursing experience with a minimum of three (3) years in behavioral healthcare required; specialty certification is preferred; a minimum of three (3) years nursing supervisory/management experience required ; and/or equivalent experience in job related activities.

OTHER SKILLS

Ability to lift up to 30 pounds; ability to push/pull up to 100 pounds; ability to speak, hear, see, sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, handle and reach; ability to speak, read and write in English; excellent problem-solving, analytical and interpersonal skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent customer service skills; good dexterity; organizational skills for managing and prioritizing multiple tasks and assignments; good supervisory and motivational skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, as well as ability to learn and use clinical software; excellent therapeutic communication skills and ability to model/teach to others; thorough familiarity with Twelve Step philosophy and addictions treatment, including knowledge of co-occurring disorders;; knowledge of and ability to apply information regarding cultural/age/population specific characteristics to patients in assigned area.; ability to deescalate patients in crisis in a calm and support manner and to teach this to others; CPI, CPR/First Aid certified or eligible. If recovering, two years of verifiable abstinence required with five years preferred; active participation in the appropriate Twelve Step program preferred. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Position is in a rehabilitation setting and involves daily contact with persons who are chemically impaired and/or volatile, requiring additional safety precautions. Position is subject to long hours and varying shifts, including weekends. Position is also subject to rotational on call responsibilities.
