Job Description - Director of Operations


 

The SEED Miami Director of Operations is a key leadership role responsible for the oversight, coordination, and continuous improvement of essential non-instructional operations at SEED Miami. This position ensures the safe, efficient, and effective management of dismissal and transportation logistics, cafeteria operations, campus security, and housekeeping services. The Senior Operations Manager works collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff, and external partners to support a safe, orderly, and student-centered school environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Transportation, Fleet & Dismissal Management

  • Oversee daily bus operations, van transportation, parent pick-up, and student dismissal procedures to ensure safety, timeliness, and compliance with regulations.
  • Manage the school’s vehicle fleet, including scheduling, preventative maintenance, inspections, licensing, and recordkeeping.
  • Assign, supervise, and evaluate bus and van monitors to ensure student safety during transit.
  • Coordinate with transportation providers, parents, and staff to resolve issues and streamline processes.
  • Develop and implement traffic flow and dismissal plans to maximize efficiency and safety during high-volume times.

Cafeteria Operations

  • Manage cafeteria services, ensuring compliance with nutritional guidelines, health, and safety standards.
  • Participating as a manger in the functionalities of the cafeteria food services for the national food service program
  • Monitor vendor performance, meal service quality, and student satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with cafeteria staff to develop efficient service schedules and resolve operational challenges.

Campus Security & Emergency Preparedness

  • Supervise school security personnel and maintain protocols to ensure a safe campus environment alongside the designated vendor administrator.
  • Monitor effectiveness of security systems, including surveillance, access control, and visitor management procedures.
  • Work alongside the Director of Facilities to develop, implement, and continuously improve emergency preparedness plans.
  • Coordinate all mandated school emergency drills (e.g., fire, lockdown, severe weather, evacuation, shelter-in-place) alongside the Director of Facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with state and district requirements for safety preparedness.
  • Train staff and collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency responders to strengthen readiness and response capabilities.

Leadership & Administration

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate operations staff across transportation, cafeteria, and security..
  • Develop and monitor budgets for assigned areas, ensuring cost-effectiveness and accountability.
  • Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) to improve efficiency, compliance, and service quality.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for operational concerns raised by staff, students, and parents.
  • Perform other tasks as required and/or assigned by supervisor(s).

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Education Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in school operations, facilities management, or related fields.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and solve problems in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of school safety protocols, cafeteria service operations, and custodial best practices preferred.
