Job Title: Director Patient Care Services
Department: Nursing Administration
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Employment Status: Full-Time
Location: Harrison County Community Hospital (HCCH)
Reports to: Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)
Job Summary/Objective:
The Director of Nursing oversees the nursing department's operations with 24-hour accountability,
ensuring compliance with standards and regulations. They manage clinical nursing practices,
patient care delivery, and resource allocation, providing administrative oversight to maintain quality
care aligned with hospital objectives. This role involves planning, directing, leading, and evaluating
nursing services to ensure the highest level of patient care.
Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:
• Provide 24-hour accountability for compliance with regulatory and professional standards
in patient care units and staff functions.
• Plan, direct, and evaluate nursing care within the assigned department(s) to ensure the
delivery of high-quality patient care.
• Oversee and manage clinical nursing practices, ensuring alignment with the hospital’s
mission and objectives.
• Develop, implement, and monitor nursing policies, procedures, and standards.
• Administer and manage human, fiscal, and material resources for assigned units.
• Collaborate with the CNO and executive leadership to establish strategic goals and
objectives for the nursing department.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, accreditation standards, and best
practices.
• Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain nursing staff to maintain a high-performing team.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, professional development, and continuous improvement.
• Monitor and evaluate patient outcomes, implementing improvement initiatives as
necessary.
• Represent the nursing department in hospital committees, task forces, and leadership
meetings.
Skills / Abilities:
• Strong leadership and decision-making skills with a strategic mindset.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate with staff, patients, and
other departments.
• Comprehensive knowledge of clinical nursing practices and standards.
• Proficiency in resource management, including human, fiscal, and material resources.
• Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Advanced organizational and multitasking skills to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Education, Certificates, and License:
Education:
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
preferred.
Certificates / License:
• Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
• Certification in Nursing Leadership or Administration (e.g., NE-BC, NEA-BC) preferred.
Experience:
• Minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience.
• Proven leadership experience in a healthcare or acute care setting preferred.
Physical Requirements:
• Lifting: Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 20 lbs.
• Mobility: Frequent walking and standing during work hours, occasional sitting.
• Posture: Prolonged periods of standing or walking, with occasional desk work.
• Dexterity: Adequate motor skills for handling documents and operating office and clinical
equipment.
