Director of Public Works

• Transportation systems
• Stormwater management

• Fleet maintenance

• Provide strategic leadership across the department’s operating divisions: Streets, Utilities, Facilities Maintenance, Wastewater, Fleet, and Stormwater.
• Develop and manage the department’s budget, capital improvement projects, and long-range infrastructure planning.
• Oversee construction and maintenance operations, ensuring regulatory compliance and fiscal responsibility.
• Coordinate with the Engineering Department, developers, architects, and outside agencies on major projects.
• Serve as the City’s representative for public works matters with City Council, boards, committees, and the public.
• Approve bids, negotiate service contracts, and monitor project progress.
• Lead staff development, succession planning, and union contract negotiations.
• Foster a positive, accountable workplace culture through open communication, teamwork, and employee engagement.

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of progressively responsible public works supervisory or management experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Strong leadership, budgeting, and personnel management skills.
• Proven ability to manage large-scale infrastructure operations and capital projects.
• Valid driver’s license required.

• Salary range: $149,984 – $209,978, commensurate with experience.
• Missouri Municipal Retirement Fund – LAGERS L6 program (98% City contribution, 2% employee contribution, fully vested in 5 years).
