Director of Recreation Therapy- Full-Time

Job Summary:

The Recreation Therapy Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing recreational therapy programs for the Sunset Manor & Village campus. They will assess resident needs and interests, plan and coordinate therapeutic activities, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. The Director will also supervise recreation therapy staff, ensure compliance with regulations and standards, and collaborate with other departments to optimize the overall well-being of the residents. 

Essential Functions of your Job:

• Plans, implements and evaluates multiple complex wellness programs spanning across the entire continuum as well as provide assistance to other Sunset Communities as necessary. 
• Coaches Mentors and directs the work of the Recreation Therapy team.  Wellness Team 
• Develops and reviews department policies and procedures, and participates in making recommended changes. 
• Develops and implements programs in relation to residents’ and community seniors’ needs.
• Provide education and support of all dimensions of wellness across the campus.
• Participates in assessment, documentation and implementation of clinical needs and services of Manor residents. 
• Participates in and oversees the employee selection process.
• Maintains measurable data to evaluate program outcomes and maintains records of program participants. 
• Oversee special projects (i.e. marketing volunteer services, staff training, special events and outings). 
• Develops and monitors the budget for the department. 
• Maintain monthly and weekly campus wide newsletter and calendars. Editor of the community wide newsletter created by the Life Enrichment Coordinator.
• Coordinate resources for the department, including educational opportunities.
• Provides direct oversight and support of the Recreation Therapy Department 
• Serve and participate in various committees such as Leadership, IDT, QAPI, Safety.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Therapy or Therapeutic Recreation. Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) ; or eligible to take the exam. 
• Two years of supervisory experience
