Director of Research Operations
The Director of Research is accountable for leading the Triple-I Research Department and advancing the organization’s strategic research agenda. This role is critical in shaping and delivering insights that strengthen Triple-I’s value proposition, illuminate industry dynamics, and foster innovation in research solutions. The Director will oversee strategies on research topics, oversee research staff (research writers and analysts), and guide the production of empirical studies and economic or industry intelligence products that benefit member companies, consumers, media, and the broader insurance ecosystem.
What You’ll Do:
Work with Chief Insurance Officer and other stakeholders to develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive research strategy aligned with organizational goals and market needs.
Supervise and mentor the research team (analysts and writers), fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and innovation.
Communicate research findings through briefs, presentations and other means.
Oversee the project management and execution of primary and secondary research studies, working to increase research produced while ensuring quality and relevance. Participate in certain research pieces as the lead.
Conduct economic impact assessments, scenario analyses, and policy evaluations to inform industry stakeholders and regulatory discussions.
Translate research findings into actionable insights through blogs, issues briefs, reports, presentations and data visualizations that enhance understanding among Triple-I’s stakeholders.
Collaborate with Triple-I’s departments, The Institutes’ business units and shared services. Work with those internal parties and external partners, including member companies, industry groups, regulatory bodies, and academic institutions, to expand research impact and collaboration opportunities.
Monitor and analyze insurance market trends, emerging risks, and evolving customer needs to proactively inform organizational strategy and policy recommendations.
Ensure research initiatives are communicated effectively, raising awareness of insights that drive higher customer satisfaction and industry advancement.
Champion data-driven decision making and use of technology across Triple-I, promoting the use of analytics, modeling, and evidence-based approaches in solution and research development.
Represent Triple-I in public forums, conferences, and media engagements as a thought leader on insurance research and innovation.
Support of other key analytical or survey objectives that are aligned with organizational strategy as needed.
What We’re Looking For:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (e.g., economics or related quantitative discipline) required.
Risk management or insurance background required.
Advanced degree or equivalent experience is a strong plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with experience translating complex findings for diverse audiences.
Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and projects.
Strong analytical, quantitative, and qualitative research skills.
Substantial experience in applied research, preferably within insurance, financial services, or a related industry.
Proficient in research tools, data analysis software, and presentation platforms.
Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external stakeholders.
Proven track record of thought leadership in relevant fields is preferred.
