The ideal candidate will have a passion for elevating guest experiences both indoors and out, thrive on creating memorable recreation events, and use their creativity to develop and implement fantastic new initiatives. This is both a strategic and hands-on role which requires autonomy and initiative. This position reports to the Hotel Manager.

The Director of Resort Activities manages all related operations to achieve the highest standards of guest satisfaction and financial profitability.  The areas of responsibility include Naturalist programming, guided experiences, children's programming (Paintbox), corporate group activities, pool and beach operations, gear rental, community and vendor relations, and retail, effectively developing and delivering year-long programs that exceed guest and member needs.

Your Leadership

  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and management of recreational program.
  • Create and execute signature resort events for holidays, festivities, and special occasions, ensuring memorable experiences that reflect the resort’s brand.
  • Manages all day-to-day operations. Understands employee positions well enough to perform duties in employees' absence.
  • Manages pool, beach and cabana operations
  • Monitors quality, and standards and meets the expectations of guests on a daily basis.
  • Providing and ensuring exceptional service per Forbes Five Star and Montage Standards.
  • Assist in the launch of any Montage International Recreation Directives.
  • Lead supervisors, interns and seasonal staff
  • Demonstrates knowledge of job-relevant issues, products, systems, and processes.
  • Utilizes interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and encourage others; advocates sound financial/business decision-making; demonstrates honesty/integrity; leads by example.
  • Schedules events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others.
  • Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
  • Manages various outside recreation vendors.
  • Orders and manages necessary supplies. Ensures workers have supplies, equipment, tools, and uniforms necessary to do their jobs.
  • Assists in the planning and execution of group recreation activities both on and off-property.
  • Serves as a role model to demonstrate appropriate behaviors.
  • Provides services that are above and beyond for customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Improves service by communicating and assisting individuals to understand guest needs, providing guidance, feedback, and individual coaching when needed.
  • Oversees associate satisfaction and guest satisfaction results, and ensures corrective action is taken when needed.
  • Identifies the developmental needs of others and coaches, mentors, or otherwise helps others to improve their knowledge or skills.
  • Participates in the performance appraisal system process, giving feedback when needed.
  • Work closely with meeting planners
  • Coordinates all training activities for employees in the department.
  • Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
  • Communicates expectations and performance objectives to subordinates; subordinates are also open to raise questions and/or concerns.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that will likely include evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Developing a marketing strategy for daily events, operating within budgetary constraints, and managing vendor relationships.

  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Must be able to repetitively lift, push, pull & carry up to 15 lbs., frequently up to 25 lbs and occasionally up to 75 lbs
  • Must be able to walk, climb into and out of and operate a vehicle frequently, with occasional stair climbing
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat frequently; kneel or crawl occasionally; infrequently climb a ladder
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, snow, heat)
  • Must be able to perform repetitive hand & arm movements, pushing and pulling and simple grasping frequently; squeezing, overhead reaching & fine manipulation occasionally.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work tasks are performed indoors and outdoors. Position requires walking and giving direction most of the working day.   Must be able to exert well-paced ability to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously. Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity. Must be able to lift trays of food or food items weighing up to 30 lbs. frequently. Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. occasionally.

 The pay scale for Director of Resort Activities is $85,000 to $128,000.

The pay scale is the base salary or hourly wage range, exclusive of incentive pay such as commissions, piece rates, gratuities, and the like, that Montage reasonably expects to pay for the position.
