Job Description - Director of Safety

As our Director of Safety, you will drive a culture of safety across all aspects of our organization, ensuring every team member goes home safely each day. You’ll develop and implement cutting-edge safety programs tailored to our diverse service lines, including lawn care, landscape construction, tree care, pest control, plant health care, irrigation and small engine repair. By collaborating with leadership and field teams, you will proactively manage risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and embed safety into every task and decision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee comprehensive safety programs for all service lines.
  • Conduct risk assessments, focusing on high-risk activities such as but not limited to; tree work, snow removal, and landscape construction.
  • Lead incident investigations to identify root causes and drive corrective actions.
  • Monitor and analyze safety metrics to measure program effectiveness and identify improvement areas
  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA, ANSI Z133, DOT, and industry safety regulations.
  • Design and deliver job-specific safety training, including:
    • OSHA 10 & 30 certifications
    • Equipment operation and maintenance
    • Chemical handling and application
    • Tree care and aerial lift operations
    • Snow removal and winter safety
    • DOT compliance and driver safety
  • Conduct regular safety audits and site inspections.
  • Collaborate with the Workers’ Compensation Specialist to analyze claims data and implement prevention strategies.
  • Provide leadership with data-driven safety insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Partner with operational leaders to integrate safety into daily activities.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous safety improvement.
  • Lead safety committees and facilitate ongoing safety meetings.
  • Manage vendor relationships and coordinate with insurance providers on safety initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Risk Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of safety leadership experience in high-risk industries such as landscaping, construction, or tree care.
  • Strong knowledge of ANSI Z133 standards and tree care safety.
  • OSHA 10 & 30 Certifications required; DOT compliance certification.
  • Proven success in developing and implementing company-wide safety programs.
  • Experience with hazardous materials handling and chemical safety.
  • Proficiency in safety management software and data analytics.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Mix of office and field work with regular travel between locations.
  • Ability to perform field inspections and demonstrate safety procedures.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions during site visits.
  • On-call availability for emergency response.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician).
  • OSHA 500 Trainer Certification.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Experience in the lawn care, landscape, or tree care industries.
