Director of Semiconductor Products

Purpose of the Position

This position is a member of the Senior Management team, which guides TQE’s long-term business strategy and execution. This position has a responsibility to direct and coordinates activities of the entire Departments of Near Infrared and Mid Infrared products (NIR), Laser Pigtail System (LPS) and Dock to Stock Products, and Vertical Cavity Laser (VCSEL) devices in Thorlabs Quantum Electronics (TQE).

Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:

• Directing and coordinating all Department Activities within groups of semiconductor products including NIR, MidIR, LPS, Dock to Stock, and VCSEL butterfly devices.

• Develop and implement long-range goals and objectives to meet business and profitability growth objectives.

• Reviews analyses of activities, costs, and operations to determine progress toward departments goals and objectives.

• As a member of TQE Senior Management, collaborate on annual and long-term (5+year) budgeting processes, including revenue projections/targets, capital budgeting and staffing plans.

• Confers with General Managers to review achievements and discuss required changes in goals and objectives resulting from current status and conditions.

• Develops, reviews, and implements department business strategic planning including sales, financial performance, and new product development.

• Work with Product Line Managers to execute business development activity necessary to support near-term and long-term revenue growth.

• Oversees key projects, processes and performance reports, data and analysis for entire departments of NIR, MidIR, LPS/Dock to Stock, and VCSEL Butterfly.

• Reviews and supports engineering and sales in conjunction with the Engineering managers to oversee design concepts with fundamental or new technology used for new or existing products or improvement to provide cost reduction, safety, customer requirements and market growth.

• Reviews and supports operations, engineering and plans to meet requirements of semiconductor components for both internal and external customers

• Assist BUL on initiatives, BU goals, and special projects.

• Support strategic vision; identify and address opportunity and threats.

In addition to the essential functions and duties listed above, all positions are also responsible for:

• Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures.

• Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.

Physical Activities: This is largely a sedentary role requiring physical administrative duties to be performed, such as hand/eye computer usage, bending, standing, and lifting up to 25 lbs.

Qualifications

Experience: • Minimum 20 years experience in the semiconductor Laser industry, preferably III-V compound semiconductor, and 5 years of senior management experience.

Education: • PhD in technical field required

Specialized Knowledge and Skills: • Demonstrated knowledge of semiconductor device physics, wafer fabrication processes, packaging, products and markets, preferably related to semiconductor lasers

• Demonstrated experience in business planning and launching new products

• Strong business acumen and strong strategic thinking skills

• Demonstrated experience in a customer centric environment

• Strong decision making skills

• Demonstrated experience in process evaluation and management

Job Type - Full Time

$163,616 Annually - $225,817 Annually D.O.E
