Job Description - Director of Strategic Operations

The Director of Strategic Operations supervises practice leaders while working collaboratively with the physicians who serve as Department Chiefs and Medical Directors. The Director of Strategic Operations works in close partnership with the Director of Clinical Care Transformation who oversees the clinical operations of InterMed. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and is a peer to a high-energy, high-drive organization-wide team of directors.
Accountabilities:
Monitor and manage day-to-day operational performance to include supervising the work of the practice managers and individual contributors on the Director’s team.
Utilize data and best practice research to evaluate existing and recommend new operational policies, procedures, processes, or training based on trends and benchmarks.
Foster a culture of accountability using measurable outcomes.
Identify opportunities to build systems-based approaches to operational efficiency across the organization.
Monitors data, evaluates themes and designs efforts to improve patient and caregiver experience.
Provides LEAN and Six-Sigma oriented leadership to the practice management teams to connect daily activities to the strategic direction of the organization.
Acts as staff to the Chiefs Committee in collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer.
Collaborate with Directors to develop and implement processes to operationalize the strategic plan including:
Targeted opportunities to improve delivery of accessible and affordable patient-centered care.
Methods to enhance interdisciplinary collaboration to reduce overall cost of care.
A long-range vision for the scope of services to be offered and venue thereof.
Function as a liaison for operations across the organization, including with medical staff and members and other staff involved in clinic operations.
Serve as a change agent as InterMed constantly seeks ways to improve the ways we care for our patients and staff.
Professionally develop and mentor teams to inspire collaboration across all primary care and specialty practices.
Provide thoughtful leadership for the practice management team including direction, timely feedback, professional development and ongoing performance planning. Develop improvement action plans and implement them where necessary.
Communication:
Serve as the primary linkage between practice-based management teams and InterMed's senior leadership team.
Foster strong working relationships with other senior managers to facilitate effective communication and follow through on key strategic imperatives.
Demonstrate strong interpersonal savvy and relate well to all kinds of people and levels within the organization.
Comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment that encourages change engagement and participation, and open dialogue.
Ability to work within the organization at all levels utilizing a very hands-on approach to creating value and buy-in as the lead change facilitator.
Develop and manage the budget (personnel, capital, operating expense) in partnership with Department Chiefs, Medical Directors, and practice managers.
Make operational adjustments as needed to promote appropriate levels of clinician and staff productivity.
Proactively assess capital equipment needs and plan for the purchase and installation of these items.
Oversight of vendor contracts and relationships in partnership with practice management.
Maximize effective and efficient utilization of space across all practices and services.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree is required. Master’s Degree in Business or Health Care Administration is preferred.
Demonstrated progressive health care leadership experience is required.
Proven success working collaboratively with a diverse medical staff is required.
LEAN and Six-Sigma knowledge/experience and/or certification at the green-belt level or higher is preferred..
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment is required.
Experience leading high-functioning teams is required.
Experience developing strategic plans and implementing key components of these plans on time and within approved budgets is required.
Experience gathering, compiling and utilizing data analytics to inform decision making is required.
Ability to synthesize and communicate complex information to different audiences with varying backgrounds is required.
Ability to effectively prioritize, organize, and plan work independently is required.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of employees is required.
Excellent communication skills are required: listening, oral and written.
