Overview of Director of Supply Chain
A company in Utah County looking for a Director of Supply Chain. This person will direct and manage supply chain functions, which may include, but are not limited to, supply forecasting and planning, material procurement, inventory availability, management of co-manufacturer/toll vendors, vendor selection (in conjunction with the innovation team), production management, quality control, regulatory compliance, and distribution to company-owned or contracted inventory locations.
In addition, this person will direct and manage all supply chain and in-bound logistics projects and tasks to ensure that they are on time, within specifications, and within budgetary controls.
Roles and Responsibilities
Supply Chain
(external and internal sourcing and production)
Lead supply planning and execution to ensure adequate inventory levels are on hand at all company inventory locations while working within budgetary controls. The definition of adequate inventory levels may be different for varying products or product categories and may change from time to time in collaboration with Sr Team. Months of supply is determined by Supply Chain dept by using a combination of historical sales and forecasted sales demand data while accounting for seasonality of demand, initial fills, category resets, special projects, etc.
Creates and submits all purchase orders and revisions to suppliers to align with supply planning efforts.
Lead negotiations of EXF dates with suppliers to prioritize production as circumstances or company needs change after PO submission
Trains suppliers and requires use of supplier portal for PO communication and acknowledgements.
Ensures all product is completed within identified specifications (includes proactively obtaining specifications from relevant departments or parties as needed) and in compliance with regulatory compliance. Product specifications are defined in collaboration between Product, Supply Chain, and QA functions. Supply Chain must be the driving force to ensure specifications are available, communicated to vendors, and that finished product is compliant with specifications. Product must arrive to inventory locations free of defects, damages, and contamination.
Leads supplier and vendor negotiations (pricing, product optimization within defined specifications, resolutions related to non-conforming materials, etc.) May request assistance from other departments and Sr Team if necessary.
Manages the scheduling of deliveries to DCs holding company owned inventory to prevent excess stock, or backorders, or receiving backlogs
Instructs manufacturer re all necessary shipping carton specifications, marking and labeling requirements to ensure compliance with company, 3PL, and customer systems and requirements.
Directs maintenance of records and data essential to supply chain programs
Assures that departmental and support personnel are focused on continuous improvement of products and processes
Lead efforts to manage all inventory that is not in a “shippable” state; whether due to damages, returns, overstock of a given item in a given location, requests from marketing/sales to adjust messaging, or reconfigurations. Actively review items (finished goods and components) with more than 12 months of supply and provide at minimum monthly reports to Sales, Marketing, and Finance to determine disposition of overstocked items in order to focus working capital on inventory required to support sales.
Collaborate with Customer Service/Sales/Warehouse to understand warehouse production needs to support immediate customer purchase order requirements and prioritize warehouse production efforts accordingly.
Proactively communicate production completion dates for both external and internal production. Communication can be via existing or new systems/models. Company-wide understanding of internal production completion dates is key to related functional decision making and efficiency. Product must arrive to inventory locations free of damages and contamination.
Evaluate results periodically (at intervals sufficient to manage changing internal and external business dynamics) and report to Dept head and make adjustments or recommendations for adjustments as needed
Logistics
Lead vendor evaluation and selection for inbound freight and warehousing services
Manage vendor relationships and negotiations with freight forwarders, brokers, and related suppliers to ensure freight is moved expeditiously from vendor sites to company inventory locations in compliance with quality and regulatory requirements and in time to meet order fulfillment requirements.
Manage vendor relationships and negotiations with 3PL fulfillment service providers (domestic and international). Collaborate with Customer Service team as may be requested.
Ensure compliance with all international partners’ requirements (export documentation, factory certifications, Form E, COO, COA, etc.)

Education & Requirements
Master's degree in business, Supply Management or related field. Will consider equivalent experience.
10 years of experience in related Supply Management role
Significant experience managing vendor relationships domestically and internationally.
Proficiency in data analysis and reporting
Effective Management of personnel
Proficiency working in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced knowledge in Excel.
Experience with Project Management tools.
