Director of Surgical Services – Full-Time, Days

Location: Houston, TX
Pay Range: $130,208 – $170,000 per year (based on experience)
Sign-On Bonus / Relocation: Case-by-case

Overview

A leading acute care hospital in Houston is actively hiring a Director of Surgical Services to oversee and lead perioperative operations, including 8 modernized operating rooms and multiple departments across surgical care. This is a high-visibility, high-impact leadership role best suited for a dynamic nurse leader with acute care experience and a proven track record in surgical operations.

Responsibilities

• Direct overall operations of surgical services including Pre-Op, Post-Op, OR, Endoscopy, Day Surgery, PAT, and SPD

• Manage and develop a team of 90+ FTEs including managers in OR and SPD

• Monitor department performance, staffing, and compliance with patient care standards

• Improve patient flow, resource utilization, and quality of surgical services

• Ensure regulatory and accreditation compliance and maintain equipment standards

• Foster a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, and employee engagement

• Collaborate with hospital leadership to drive growth and optimize perioperative strategy

• Participate in budgeting, labor management, and strategic development initiatives

Qualifications

• Minimum 1–2 years of recent acute care Director of Surgical Services experience

• Experience overseeing at least 8 ORs and complex service lines

• Bachelor's degree required (BSN preferred); Master’s in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or Business preferred

• Demonstrated leadership success with operational and financial outcomes in surgical settings

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary: $130,208 – $170,000 (based on years of leadership experience)
