Director of Surgical Services #3261

Position Summary: The Director of Surgical Services is a Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for the coordination for the surgical services unit (OR, ACU, PACU, Endoscopy and Sterile Processing). The Director impacts patient care across the care continuum with regard to patient care management, resource management, and clinical outcomes. Oversees direct care, mentors and guides staff for achievement of excellence. Accountable for process improvement using PDSA cycle. Ensures staff competency, provides real-time performance feedback to mentor staff growth. Provides for real-time education of staff and promotes teamwork concepts among staff. Supports and models the Healthy Work Environment (HWE) standards, which represent evidence-based and relationship-centered principles of professional performance. 
Education and Training Required:

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

• BSN required; Master’s or DNP preferred.

• BLS required.

• Advanced Life support certification such as ACLS and PALS required.  

• Professional certification desirable

• Knowledge of TJC standards.

• Knowledge of administrative nursing practice.

• Meets health requirements.

Experience:

• Minimum of two (2) years as a staff nurse in surgical care setting.

• Minimum of two (2) years of leadership experience in an acute care hospital setting.

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Demonstrates leadership and teaching ability.

• Rudimentary understanding of budgetary concepts

• Demonstrates organizational skills.

• Working knowledge of leadership, motivation, and nursing theories

Physical Requirements:

• Frequently sit while performing the tasks of the role (scheduling, developing and reviewing protocols/procedures, job descriptions, etc.).

• Frequently carry objects weighing less than 10 pounds.

• Occasionally walk and stand.


• Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds while transferring and positioning patients and maneuvering equipment while using gait belts, transfer devices, etc.


• Occasionally bend to the floor, squat, kneel, crouch and reach overhead to assist with patient care or retrieve equipment or supplies.

• Occasionally handle objects, smell and feel control knobs, switches and levers.
