POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director, Total Rewards and Benefit Administration provides subject matter expertise (SME) and leadership for Compensation and Benefits (C&B, including Well Being) programs, policies and processes. As a trusted partner to leadership and HR, this position consults and commercializes the execution of the compensation and benefits strategy for Ortho Alliance and all partner practices. It serves as a point of escalation on complex cases and is responsible for all governance and compliance for the businesses it supports. It may take on design responsibility for specific solutions where applicable or required and strategic vendor relationships.

The role partners with regional Human Resources Directors to ensure delivery of Total Rewards programs as well as compensation and benefits related transactional services. This position will lead a coordinator who supports the administrative functions of Total Rewards, Compensation and Benefits. This leader will have oversight of the day-to-day administration of employee benefit plans companywide while supporting the employees and physicians of OrthoAlliance. This role will have the ability to resolve most issues independently, with elevated matters being escalated to senior HR leadership. This role is expected to have frequent contact with internal customers, insurance carriers, broker partners and/or third-party administrators. This individual will also collaborate with Operations and HR leaders to develop a robust OrthoAlliance recognition program.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and administration of Total Rewards and compensation programs, as well as all benefit and employee health offerings and programs, including well being
  • Strategically assess the effectiveness of current programs, using data trends, surveys and other viable sources of information in achieving organizational objectives and give recommendations for modifications
  • Determine short- and long-term financial impact of Total Rewards practices, with ability to prepare and oversee the presentation of relevant financial data to a senior leadership audience
  • Drive the evaluation and implementation of additional services of existing HRIS and other people technologies
  • Leads and measures internal customer service and support of employees for benefit and claim inquiries for all health and wellness plans offered.
  • Subject matter expert for technical knowledge of the workings of group insurance plans – plan documents, summary plan descriptions and other insurance mechanisms, specifically 401k and profit sharing in partnership with Finance.
  • Collaborate with Learning & Development and Operations to develop and coordinate communication strategies and activities designed to educate and inform employees about Total Rewards
  • Proactively maintain knowledge of industry best practices and future trends of Total Rewards programs, compensation and benefits
  • Oversight and execution of benefit renewal and open enrollment process, to include preparation of announcement material, booklets, and other media for communicating new offerings or changes to employees.
  • Prepares and executes, with legal consultation, benefit documentation such as original and amended plan texts, benefit agreements and insurance policies. Instructs insurance carriers, trustees, and other administrative agencies outside the company to effect changes in benefit program. Ensure plans comply with the applicable provisions of COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA as well as federal, state, and local compensation laws and regulations
  • Assures company compliance with provisions of Employee Retirement Income Security Act. Supervises preparation of reports and applications required by law to be filed with federal and state agencies, such as Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, insurance commissioners, and other regulatory agencies. Reviews and analyzes changes to state and federal laws pertaining to benefits and reports necessary or suggested changes to management. Develops benefit information and statistical and census data for actuaries, insurance carriers, and management.
  • Assists with the Workers Compensation program by working with vendors, monitoring status, reporting requirements and safety council.
  • Serves as a regular contact for employees, internal customers, insurance vendors and/or third-party administrators.
  • Maintains currency in Benefits and Human Resources legislation.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources, or related field is required
  • Human Resources certification preferred (SHRM – CP, SHRM- SCP, PHR, SPHR)
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years working experience in Human Resources progressive roles focused on all aspects of benefits administration, short-term and long-term incentive/ recognition programs, and HR systems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including demonstrated experience working collaboratively with multiple disparate stakeholders at all levels
  • Deep experience with varying HR Information Systems
  • Financial acumen, Ability to consistently measure Return on Total Rewards Investment preferred
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and communicate data
  • Request for Proposal (RFP) experience preferred, not required
  • Thorough knowledge of all federal, state, and local regulations and compliance requirements related to employee compensation and benefits
  • Strong partnering and influencing skills, proficient in collaborating with all levels inside an organization
  • Ability to work in a complex environment, with multi-level decision makers - demonstrates the ability to understand and apply complex concepts
  • Ability to lead and develop a diverse team
  • Experience in designing, implementing, and sustaining multi-geography governance models
  • Adaptability
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Power Point
  • Ability to travel 5-10%
  • *Hybrid role after the first 90 days spent in office*

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical requirements for the position include the ability to frequently hear and communicate orally, see up close and at a distance, read and comprehend, stand, sit, walk, reach, handle, and/or feel objects. Must be able to climb, pull, push and kneel. Maximum unassisted lift = 25 lbs. Average lift is less than 10 lbs. Must be able to work extended hours as necessary.

SUPERVISING RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible for assessment of talent and managing performance of team, which includes making recommendations and/or decisions for hiring, corrective action, terminations, and performance evaluations.
