Job Description - Director - Valuation Advisory

Director – Valuation Advisory (Business Valuation Practice)

Description: Join a dynamic and growing global investment bank and advisory firm specializing in corporate finance, valuation, disputes, and investigations in our Business Valuation Practice. A successful candidate will have the ability to multi-task and be a self-starter; excels in a team-oriented and fast-paced environment; and is entrepreneurial and nimble in their thinking and approach to the job. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Core Valuation Skills Needed: ASC 805 Purchase Price Allocation; ASC 350/360 Goodwill Impairment; IRC 409a stock-based compensation; ASC 718 expense reporting; and possibly complex securities experience
  • Performing corporate, fund and asset valuations including analysis of discounted cash flows, capitalization of earnings, comparable companies, merger and acquisition transactions, purchase price allocations, goodwill impairment testing, stock option analysis, illiquid debt investments
  • Preparing written valuation reports for client presentation
  • Solvency and fairness opinion analyses
  • Developing client interaction and participating in due diligence meetings
  • Conducting and overseeing company, industry, and economic research
  • Analyzing general economic conditions and industry specific conditions and trends
  • Participating in the hiring and training of Interns, Analysts, and Associates

Provide valuation services for many purposes, including:

  • Financial, tax, and regulatory requirements of investment funds and individual companies
  • Purchase price allocation and goodwill impairment studies
  • Estate and gift taxation
  • Fairness opinions, solvency opinions and other transactional matters
  • Management planning
  • Shareholder disputes
  • Family law matters

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong technical and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate/advanced understanding of economics, financial theory and/or principles of accounting.
  • Proficient computer skills (primarily Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Relationship-focused (with clients, peers, management, etc.)
  • Entrepreneurial
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude
  • Excels in a team-oriented work environment
  • Shows creativity in problem solving
  • Accountability and ability to multi-task
  • Professional presence
  • Detail-oriented
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic

Education and/or Training:

  • 4-year degree necessary with an emphasis in finance or accounting
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in business valuation. The preferred candidate will have prior experience in purchase price allocations and other financial reporting related assignments, estate and gift tax valuation, and transaction opinions.
