Position: Director/VP, Business & Legal Affairs, TV Location: West Hollywood Classification: Exempt Reports to: EVP, Head of Business & Legal Affairs, TV
MRC is a diversified global entertainment company with divisions including Film and Television.
Role Description: MRC is looking for a business and legal affairs executive to assist with the development, production, post-production, delivery and distribution of MRC’s television projects.
Responsibilities:
Structure, negotiate, and manage business deals for MRC’s premium television projects.
Draft, review, and comment on a wide variety of agreements including above-the-line talent deals (including writers, directors, producers, and on-screen talent), below-the-line HOD deals, underlying rights deals, network license agreements, and overall/first look agreements.
Oversee and be responsible for all aspects of production legal including the management of junior team members and outside production counsel.
Prepare internal documents related to tracking and updating the status of various aspects of the business and legal affairs process.
Offer business and legal affairs support on labor relations, music, production related human resources, risk, and safety.
Strategize with, advise, and counsel MRC senior leaders on all business and legal affairs matters.
Work closely and collaboratively with other departments such as Creative, Production, Finance, Production HR, and Production Finance.
Experience & Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have 5-7 years of television business and legal affairs experience, preferably in the production of premium scripted content.
Major or independent studio experience and day-to-day production experience is highly preferred.
The ability to effectively, efficiently, and professionally negotiate and interact with talent agents, managers, attorneys, publicists, and in-house business and legal affairs executives at other studios and distributors.
J.D. and membership in good standing in at least one state bar.
Clear, concise communication skills.
Strong analytical capabilities, judgment, and attention to detail.
Ability to work proactively, independently, and collaboratively under tight timeframes in a fast-paced environment.
Comfortable managing and mentoring junior members of the Business and Legal Affairs team.
A strong sense of urgency and the ability to juggle multiple, competing priorities.
Ability to pivot quickly and fluidly, think practically and be solution-oriented.
Hiring Salary Range is $125,000 to $220,000 base, dependent on experience and level. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including, but not limited to, market demands, experience/training, and education.
