District Assistant Cook

Help Nourish Young Minds at Brooklyn Center Elementary. We're seeking a compassionate, skilled and caring District Assistant Cook to join our Nutrition Services team.  Are you passionate about creating nutritious meals and approach each day with enthusiasm and adaptability, value working with our diverse student community, show patience and understanding with students of all abilities, can communicate professionally with staff, students, and families, and create an inclusive, welcoming environment for everyone?

Your Role Will Include:

• Prepare, cook, and serve menu items according to established recipes and portion standards; set up à la carte items and operate as cashier.
• Operate foodservice equipment including dishwashers, mixers, choppers, slicers, steamers, deep fryers, ovens, and other mechanical equipment.
• Assist with breakfast, lunch, and dinner food preparation and service; prep lunch items and stock salad bar, deli counter, beverage machines, and condiment stations.
• Create a welcoming, supportive environment for students and staff that promotes equity and cultural responsiveness.
• Clean kitchen and equipment, wash and store dishes and utensils, handle laundry duties, and perform general cleaning tasks.
• Stock and rotate food supplies, maintain production records, count leftovers, and assist with ordering supplies.
• Replenish food, beverage, and utensil supplies during meal service and ensure consistent portion sizes.
• Report accidents or issues in kitchen/cafeteria areas and maintain sanitary standards and food safety protocols.
• Serve as Baker when needed and complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year cooking experience in a commercial kitchen.
• Food Protection Manager Certification (must hold and maintain throughout employment).
• ServSafe Food Safety Certified (assistance provided by district).
• DHS background check.
• Professional communication skills.

Salary and Benefits:

• $20.75 - $22.35 per hour, depending on qualifications.

Locations & Shift Times:

• Full-time position - 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM.
• Location: Brooklyn Center Elementary School.
