DME Dispatcher

Tidewell Hospice, a part of Empath Health is seeking a DME Dispatcher to manage orders for durable medical equipment (DME) and dispatch drivers for delivery, service, and pickup up of equipment. The dispatcher communicates with the patient, caregiver and members of the interdisciplinary team (IDT) to keep them informed and resolve problems as they arise. The incumbent will demonstrate leadership by fostering staff development, facilitating teamwork and supporting the delivery of exceptional patient care to meet the organization’s vision, mission and goals.

What You’ll Do

• Manages all daily routing and scheduling for deliveries, pickups, repairs. Balances assignment of work to Driver/Techs for efficiency and optimal patient service. Facilitates resolution of route exceptions (weather delays, accidents, etc.) Logs notes to provide transparent communication.


• Screens orders for accuracy and completeness. Communicates with IDT to clarify concerns.


• Communicates with patients and caregivers to inform of orders, establish delivery timeframes, and screen for delivery readiness.


• Manages inbound and outbound department calls.


• Maintains accurate paperwork, monitors assigned reports, and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.


• Collaborates with Pharmacy and DME Driver/Techs to provide support and guidance.


• Work schedule:  Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 12pm-9pm; Saturday and Sunday 8am-5pm

What You'll Need

• Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); minimum 4 years DME experience preferred.


• Working knowledge of area streets.


• Excellent communication and organization skills with attention to detail.


• Must be able to set priorities, assist Driver/Techs in routing of daily deliveries, time stops, etc.


• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to think quickly and remain composed in a busy office environment.


• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, web applications, mobile devices).


• Some experience with, or basic knowledge of, the healthcare industry.
