Job Description - DME Equipment Technician

Description

OAK Orthopedics, a division of Illinois Bone and Joint Institute is currently hiring a DME (Durable Medical Equipment) Technician. This position will be based at our busy Bourbonnais office but travel to our Frankfurt location may be occasionally required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Fitting and education of orthopedic bracing, ambulatory aids and other durable medical equipment
  • Calling patients pre-operatively and arranging DME necessary for their post-op rehabilitation
  • Problem solving in regards to type of brace or DME that best suits the patient’s needs
  • Contacting insurance carriers and obtaining benefit coverage and authorization per payer requirements
  • Ensure complete and accurate documentation in electronic medical record
  • Order, receive and stock inventory
  • Entering charges and creating claims
  • Collect payments for retail and point of sale transactions
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Above average judgment, decision making and time management skills
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and manage multiple assignments efficiently
  • Must have ability to work quickly, accurately and pay close attention to detail
  • Good working knowledge of medical terminology and orthopedic anatomy and physiology
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Must work effectively as a team member
  • Displays a professional, outgoing and helpful attitude
  • Must have valid IL driver’s license
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Familiar with HIPAA compliance
  • Minimum high school diploma/some college preferred
  • Preference will be given to applicants with previous healthcare background
  • Experience working with EMR is a plus
  • Knowledge of medical insurance coverage and authorization helpful

Base salary offers for this position may vary based on factors such as location, skills and relevant experience.
