Job Description - Dock and Door Estimator

Description

 

The Dock and Door Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for loading dock equipment and commercial door installation projects. This position involves reviewing project specifications, assessing site conditions, and collaborating with clients, vendors, and project teams to develop competitive bids. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of commercial dock and door systems, and experience in the construction estimating process.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Analyze project blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial dock levelers, overhead doors, high-speed doors, vehicle restraints, and related equipment.
  • Conduct site visits as necessary to assess conditions and identify potential challenges.
  • Work closely with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing and availability.
  • Develop take-offs, material lists, and labor estimates.
  • Collaborate with sales, project management, and field teams to ensure accuracy and feasibility of estimates.
  • Prepare bid proposals and submit timely responses to RFPs.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities to optimize project costs without compromising quality.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, material costs, and market conditions.
  • Assist in contract negotiations and pre-construction planning as needed.
  • Track and analyze bid success rates and provide feedback for process improvement.

Requirements

 

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in commercial construction estimating, preferably in dock and door installations.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications.
  • Experience with estimating software and tools 

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple bids simultaneously.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of industry regulations, building codes, and safety standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
