Domestic Violence advocate
Qualifications: Experience in human services or similar field or equivalent work preferred. Require working well with various racial, ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds, and differently individuals.
Experience in counseling and advocacy techniques for people who have been victims of domestic violence, including crisis intervention and case management skills beneficial.
Work or volunteer work in human services, community agencies, or other related nonprofit or social change organizations is a plus. Outstanding oral and written communication and computer skills are required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, working independently, accepting responsibility, and following through project assignments. Must have a High School Diploma or a Bachelor’s degree.
Essential job Description
- Render trauma-informed direct assistance to victims of domestic abuse, including support, crisis mediation, safety planning, information, and referrals on the helpline,
- Implement follow-up services to clients as required
- Respond to callers accessing 24-hour hotline and render services
- Manage client files, agency files, statistics, forms, and other record-keeping as needed
- Perform all paperwork and register it into the client records database punctually

- Assist with protective/restraining orders and other court matters
- Arrange for emergency medical or law enforcement services as needed
- Evaluate immediate crisis needs of clients and address them appropriately
- Manage incoming calls and walk-ins and complete necessary documentation
- Educate clients about the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault and the options/resources available
- Engage in staff meetings, case conferences, and other meetings as needed
- Facilitate support groups as needed
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by Programs Director
Experience
At least two-years’ experience working with victims of domestic violence preferred.
Experience working with trauma survivors preferred

Domestic violence comes in many forms – it manifests as physical, mental or emotional abuse. Perhaps a partner withholds love and compassion, criticizes physical appearance or decisions, controls behaviors, or undermines authority as a parent or partner. Abuse can be obvious and confident, but sometimes abuse can happen so subversively that it becomes difficult to acknowledge that abuse and victimization have occurred.
House of Globalization through its mission and core values addresses these many facets of domestic violence and human trafficking, by exposing the painful realities of an abusive relationship and consciously choosing to stand against power and corruption, with powerful statements and actions that gives voice to victims everywhere.
