Dorm Duty - Nonexempt PT

Key Accountabilities

• Responsible for checking students into the dorm in the evening and on the weekends


• Be a visible adult presence in the dorm during evening and weekend hours. (when on duty)


• Maintain an environment that is conducive to studying


• Must be responsive to a variety of student related issues


• Participate actively and energetically in dorm life. Including attending opening-of-school activities, joining dorm events and outings, attending faculty/proctor and dorm meetings, and helping with Dorm Pack and Clean and related end of the year events.

Incumbent is expected to work with a high level of independence and autonomy, and exercise a high degree of judgment in decisions impacting advisees. 

Direct/Indirect Reports

None.

Internal & External Contacts

Frequent contact with students, Dean of Students office, PEA administrative and academic offices, faculty, coaches, and staff.  External contacts may include parents, outside organizations, visitors and local community neighbors.

Position Requirements

Education

• High School diploma required


• Bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience

• Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting is preferred.


• Must be 21 years of age or old


• Experience in an institutional or campus setting

• Demonstrated ability to work with students by building trust and credibility.


• Demonstrated cultural fluency in working with all populations of adults and students.


• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships.


• Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Modify accordingly.

1. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work and will require the ability to remain standing for extended periods of time, go up and down flights of steps, lift and push heavy objects as well as stoop, squat, bend, kneel, crouch, and lift.

1. Ability to sit in a normal seated position for extended periods of time.


2. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.


3. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example using a keyboard.


4. Communication skills using the spoken and written word.


5. Ability to see with normal parameters.


6. Ability to use a visual display terminal with continuous wrist movement on a keyboard.


7. Ability to hear within normal range.


8. Ability to lift and transport up to 10lbs without assistance.


9. Ability to withstand exposure to inclement weather (rain, snow, sleet, freezing temperatures, etc.).

Additional Requirements

1. Successfully complete a criminal background check (every 5 years).


2. Must abide by all guidelines as listed in the general orders.


3. Must complete a harassment prevention seminar and boundary training seminar within 30 days of employment.
