Minimum Qualifications:



  • Two years of professional experience and/or at least three years of coursework toward a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in historic preservation, history, public history, geography, architectural history, architecture, anthropology, archaeology, urban planning, or other related Social Sciences or Liber Arts degrees.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and relate ideas through verbal and written means.

  • Ability to provide customer service assistance to the public, in person, and through telephone or email

  • Experience using the Microsoft Office suite of computer applications


 


Preferences:



  • Experience with Geographic Information System software or similar programs

  • Experience in archaeology, historic preservation, public history, architectural history, architecture, or anthropology

  • Experience working with or maintain historical or archival collections

  • Experience using and/or an understanding of relation databases

Duties and Responsibilities:


This is a professional position that assists citizens, government agencies and historic preservation professionals in performing cultural resource searches, obtaining information from our inventory and in the recording of cultural resources in Florida:


Duties for this position include but are not limited to:



  • Conducting various Site File database searches

  • ArcGIS geo-spatial searches for recorded cultural resources

  • Assigning new site identification numbers

  • Data processing of submitted manuscripts and surveys

  • Perform other related duties as required


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:



  • Knowledge of or ability to follow the Florida Master Site File’s mission, operations, and procedures.

  • Knowledge of or the ability to master the operations, procedures, and software of the MSF database

  • Knowledge of or the ability to use Geographic Information System software to digitize and retrieve information.

  • Experience in the operation of personal computers, database systems, and common office software products.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to plan and stay organized when working with large volumes of paper and digital files.

  • Ability to use and learn a variety of computer applications.

  • Ability to accurately file and retrieve documents in a historical or archival collection.
