Description

The Driver is a key member of the Operations team, responsible for the safe operation of company-owned and leased vehicles to transport food for pickup and delivery in accordance with Arkansas Foodbank guidelines while operating independently within established guidelines.

The Driver will be comfortable learning new technology, as well as an eagerness to utilize COMPANY software systems. They will possess strong interpersonal skills, a spirit of collaboration and teamwork, and a commitment to hunger relief.

Perform quality work within deadlines, with or without direct supervision

  1. Operate vehicles in compliance with OSHA, DOT, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws.

  3. Maintain strong donor and partner relationships through timely pickups and deliveries, always conducting oneself with integrity, courtesy, and professionalism.
  4. Exercise sound judgment while navigating traffic and adapting to road conditions.

5. Operate material-handling equipment safely and assist in unloading products from COMPANY trucks.

6. Transfer products from the dock to appropriate storage areas, including cooler, freezer, and warehouse zones.

7. Promptly report mechanical issues and coordinate authorized repairs.

8. Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections in accordance with the schedule.

9. Report all accidents per company policy to the Transportation Director or Chief Operating Officer.

10. Maintain all required certifications as dictated by DOT, OSHA, and safety protocols.

11. Represent Arkansas Foodbank positively and respectfully in interactions with donors, the public, and partner agencies.

12. Foster productive, professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

13. Contribute effectively to team goals and work collaboratively across department.

14.   Maintain a valid CDL (Class B required, Class A preferred) and DOT physical card, along with a clean driving record.

15.   Demonstrate working knowledge of road laws, regulations, and safe driving practices.

16.   Safely operate and maintain vehicles.

17.   Communicate clearly and professionally in both oral and written forms.

18.   Work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.

19.   Attend required meetings, training, and conferences.

20.   Accurately complete and submit required reports

Requirements

The following qualifications are preferred for the candidate or employee, however, other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements upon approval of management. 

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of commercial driving experience.
  • Certification in operation of powered industrial equipment (forklift, pallet jack), or ability to obtain certification through Arkansas Foodbank-provided training.
  • Valid Class B commercial driver’s license required; Class A preferred.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Valid Arkansas driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • Successful completion of a background check and pre-employment drug screening.

Working Conditions

This job operates in the community and professional office environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to hot/cold and/or humid conditions.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift/move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. May be required to operate vehicles.
