Driver Helper

Position Summary:

The Driver Helper supports the Box Truck Delivery Driver in the safe and efficient delivery of custom stair sets, doors, and millwork products from the Troy, VA mill shop to job sites. This role involves manual material handling, securing loads, and assisting with on-site delivery placement per customer requirements. The ideal candidate is dependable, physically capable of lifting heavy items, and demonstrates a professional attitude at job sites.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the Delivery Driver in loading and unloading custom stair sets, doors, and millwork products
• Handle heavy materials safely and use team-lift techniques to prevent damage or injury
• Position delivered items per customer instructions and site requirements
• Help verify that delivery materials match paperwork before departure and upon delivery
• Use pallet jacks, dollies, and other equipment to move and stage materials
• Maintain a clean and organized truck and assist with securing loads
• Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, and co-workers on-site
• Follow all safety procedures, including proper lifting techniques and use of PPE
• Assist in daily truck inspections and basic maintenance checks as directed by the driver
• Perform other support duties at the mill shop or during deliveries as assigned

Work Schedule:

• Full-time, Monday through Friday (7:30 AM – 4:00 PM)
• Occasional overtime may be required based on delivery schedules

Additional Information:

• This role reports daily to the Troy, VA Mill Shop
• Compliance with company safety standards is required at all times
• Steel-toed boots and other safety gear may be required

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must have a valid drivers license in good standing for minimum of 3 years to be able to act as backup driver.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Prior experience in delivery, construction, or warehouse work is a plus
• Must have a valid driver’s license with at least 3 years of driving experience and a clean driving record (required to occasionally fill in as a backup driver)
• Must be able to lift, push, and carry up to 100 pounds regularly
• Reliable transportation to and from the Troy, VA shop
• Strong work ethic, punctuality, and ability to follow instructions
• Professional demeanor and ability to work well in a team environment

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions (ADA Compliance):

• Continuous physical activity, including lifting, bending, standing, and walking
• Team-lifting of heavy and bulky items such as stair sets and doors
• Climbing in and out of box trucks frequently
• Regular exposure to outdoor conditions at job sites
• Must be able to hear and respond to delivery instructions and communicate clearly with the driver and customers
• Ability to work in all weather conditions and variable environments
