DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain safe and efficient solid waste collection and transport equipment and vehicles.


• Perform pre-trip vehicle inspections.


• Complete daily worksheet for equipment operated.


• Keep work location and vehicle in order.


• Operates various types of solid waste collection trucks


• Operates mechanism for loading, compressing, and dumping


• Drives to designated area to deliver the packing and dumping apparatus


• Assures solid waste collection truck is properly fueled, equipped, lubricated, and serviced.


• Washes the interior and exterior of the solid waste collection truck


• Reports needed repairs immediately

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have a current Class A CDL license


• Must have a hazmat endorsement


• Must have a good driving record

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATON REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum six months experience in solid waste management and transportation is preferred.

Knowledge of traffic laws involved in equipment operations; safe operations of and safety precautions necessary in operation of equipment, including various types of solid waste collection trucks. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; understand and carry out written and oral instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public.

Knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures as they apply to solid waste. Ability to operate various types of solid waste collection trucks: loading, compressing, and dumping. Can safely operate a packing and dumping apparatus. Also, maintaining the fuel levels, equipment, services, and washes interior/exterior of truck.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION:

• Knowledge and understanding of relevant traffic laws.


• Considerable knowledge of safety standard practices governing the operation of vehicles.


• Ability to properly use, operate and care for tools, equipment and materials.


• Ability to read and understand vehicle operator’s manual.
